I'm trying to figure out what exactly the plastic flooring is in the commercially available screen cages. PVC? If so is it solid or expanded? Does anyone know where I can get large sheets of this? Or have a alternative that has similar properties?

You can try a sheet of acrylic

I thought about this, but I'm avoiding it for a few reasons
1)its transparency, It is going to be used for walls of cages
2)Its a pain in the a** to work with.
3)Price per square ft, just OUTRAGEOUS. lol

Thanks for the suggestion though:)

The stuff that comes with a DIYcage is some sort of PVC.
You might be able to find similar stuff at a sign shop.
I would use plexi-glass if I couldnt find it though.

If you are building your own cages why not just screen the bottem and on your drain table bellow add supports like a few pieces of pvc tubing so you can still use live plants if you want to.I think home depot has a huge sheet of pvc just like in DIY cages you can but and abs plastic is just fine too.

Thats exactly how the bottom is going to be:D But this is for the sides

I use 1/4 plywood with a good coat of polyurethane on all sides. Used this from the begining of the hobbie and had no problems.

can anyone explain the exact differences between all the types of piping?

ABS, PVC, etc?

Im wondering the same:confused: Is this a trick question? I think abs is used a lot for thermoforming, and pvc not so much... But who knows???

somehow missed the part "piping".... Maybe different chemical tolerances depending what its used for
