bulb on top of housing

Just a quick question. I see many people just use a household bulb for a basking bulb and rest it on the top of their enclosure. What stops the chameleon from hanging from the top of the enclosure under that bulb and possibly getting burned. Has this happen to anyone?

if you use a 40w bulb you have nothing to worry about.

that is pretty general........

yes, there is nothing to stop the cham from parking his butt under the heat lamp.... young chams will do this....... older chams don't climb up-side-down and park... well anywhere. they mostly rather sit on the branch near the light. Young chams just like to move around and explore and find it easy to move about the top of the cage, so yes, you need to keep an eye out. A 50-60w maybe 75w lamp needs to be used.... but you should make sure you keep an eye on your guy if he likes to sit directly under the lamp at close range.

it is sort of a growing up stage chams go through, hanging form the screen.
