Bug Identification ?

Hey everyone, I have a question about this bug I caught earlier today. My chameleon was outside getting some natural sunlight when he spotted this fellow. He definitely wanted it for lunch, but I wasn't sure if he was safe to eat. When his wings are down he looks like a black solider fly, but his body isn't solid black. I'm sorry if the pictures aren't so great.

The pictures aren't best quality so it's hard to be sure BUT it kinda looks like a hover fly. If I'm right about that, I don't think they would be harmful as a food source but I still wouldn't have allowed that one to be eaten due to the possibility of disease and parasites from being in the wild.
