I am new to this site and not sure how it workd but i am hoping someone can help me. My veiled chameleons Looks like he could have broken his leg.
There is a big bump on his joint and his little leg is very swollen. I need advise on what i can do. I want to upload a picture so i can show you but i am not sure how. Please help.....:(:(:(:(

my personal motto when it come to my chams is when in doubt have the vet figure it out. Just make sure your vet is a good one.

It could also be gout if the joint is swollen. Post a pic and fill out the form as others have suggested.

Here's a picture that baby green emailed me to post for her. I am not a vet but it looks like gout to me. We'll see what the others say. I would get him to a good chameleon vet ASAP. Where do you live? Someone on the forums might be able to recommend a good vet for you. Some better pictures would also be helpful. You should be able to find a cham vet in your area in this link. https://www.chameleonforums.com/area-area-country-vet-list-32880/

It looks LIKE gout but the only thing keeping me from totally going with gout is the discoloration just after the foot right below the knee... It looks warped and discolored like many of the breaks we see on this site... It could just be a combination honestly, where as a supplementation issue led to simply weak bones bad it is a break, putting so much strain on the joints that its swelling the knee... Regardless it DEFINITELY is a vet trip. I still would need to see the other joints to say either way.

Thanks for posting it Jann!

gout or broken leg?

ok guys so i will have to find Dexter a good vet but the only issue is getting him out of the cage. Since his leg i dont think he wants to be touched. so he tries to bite.
When i get home i will take a picture from the side.
If it is gout is there anything i can do besides surgery, i really would hate to put him through that. He is only a baby. :(

how does this happen? we give him his Vitamins. He has a really awesome home. I just dont get it. I just feel so bad. It probably hurts so bad. Thanks everyone for the support. would like more feedback after i post the picture

to much Vitamins

i have been reading more and it seemd like icould have been giving him to many vitamins. or maybe the place i get the crickets from could have been feeding the crickets a high rich diet. is This possible

I am tending to think it's a break more than gout. Gout is a systemic problem and affects multiple joints rather than just a single joint acutely. But it's impossible to tell at this point from one picture and a very limited description of history. Can you please get another picture of it from a different angle? And answer the questions about your husbandry from the link provided above. Surgery won't cure gout btw because it's everywhere, not just one place. If it's a break it could be problems in your husbandry that are leading to weak bones.

I was thinking the same thing ferret!
Besides, in my experience, gout usually shows up in the wrists and ankles of a chameleon more often than the knees. A vet will be able to tell you for sure.

If its a break, you need to look at your husbandry in case its a calcium issue and wasn't just an accident. The vet can test the calcium levels too...and help to correct it.

While this is very true, my nosy be started out with one joint being swollen and at first I thought it was a broken leg. Over many months it spread to his other joints and then he died not to long after that happened. So yes please fill out everything so we can help you further. A vet visit should be extremely soon.

terrible mommy

i feel awful. I will have to bring him to the vet. But again since the swollen knee we cannot touch him with him snapping at us.

You can try to get him to step onto a branch you are holding in your hand. If that doesn't work try taking a washcloth and sticking it in front of him so he will bite it. Then you can gently (do not pull him off the branch) pick him up with gloves on your hand or a long sleeved sweat shirt over your arm/hand.

more pictures

PLease take a look at Dexters leg.
I am looking for a good vet, but there are not many around

That leg looks bad and you need to get this little guy to the vet and see what's wrong. Up in post #5 I gave you some vets recommended by other members here on the forums. There were a few in NJ. Sometimes there's not always a good chameleon vet close by. My vet is two hours away but believe me it's worth a drive to see a vet that knows chameleons.

Have the picture on your computer (not your phone). Click the POST REPLY button, do not use the quick reply box. In Post Reply, you will have an icon that looks like a little paper clip. Click that, it will take you through the steps to upload the picture from your computer. It will appear in your post as a small thumbnail. When we click on it, it will expand to full size.

I agree, that leg is in need of x-rays to determine if it's gout or a broken leg. Hopefully its not gout, treatment is a horrible experience.

Hi idk how to post im new here but my chameleon's leg looks broken too it looks worse than this :( look :(
