Brilliant day today!

This morning I woke up to find that the silkworm eggs that I bought (mine have never hatched - I think I killed them off, but that's another story) have started hatching! Then this afternoon I was checking the woodlice and it looks like I have at least a few pregnant females!:D Woohoo!

I ended up having to buy more eggs to start again. When the eggs were laid I put them in the fridge like you should, but I made the mistake of putting them in the door compartment. It doesn't get so cold there with the door opening and closing often, so I moved them to the back of the top shelf, and this is how I think I killed them.

I always use the door compartment ;) worked everytime ;)

Will check my temps before I put the next lot in! The ones you put into the fridge - have you incubated any yet? How long did they take to hatch? I've taken some out we over a month ago and nothing has happened at all.

They started there cocoons on the 11th some on the 12th and some on the 13th and 14th but i read they could take two weeks to emerge?! So i dont know were i stand am i just looking at dead cocoons ! Lol

I have moths emerging today! There were 6 before I left for work. I expect more when I return home. WOOT WOOT!:D I hope I can keep them going. They have been sooooo much easier to deal with in smaller batches and fresh mulberry leaves. I have access to a few trees in peoples yards (with permission, of course) and a big, vine-y bush/tree along a freeway with an open access gate.

Update!

Even more silkie babies have hatched today! PLUS - even a couple fromt he eggs I took out of the fridge have hatched too! I took them out at around Easter time and it has taken 6 weeks or so for them to hatch! Maybe I haven't killed them after all! It'll be just my luck that the whole lot will hatch now! Not looking froward to all the hard work though. Must find any easier way to get the tiny babies onto new food. Any ideas folks?

Yeah I've hatched out over a thousand so far from my first round I'd say I'm have around a 90-95% hatch rate each time
I keep mine above my cricket light they stay about 23-24c
