Breeding verrucosus: male not ready?!

Currently I would like to breed my WC Furcifer verrucosus semicristatus (Fort Dauphin) male. I 'borrowed' a female from another chameleon-breeder.

She is pretty small, like half of his size and she seems receptive. She is not lashing out at him, no signs of agression and she shows beautifull rustbrown/reddish skin with purple shine.

My male on the other hand, doesn't really know what to do :(. I showed her to him and there was no reaction at all. I also placed her in his terrarium just to see his reaction. She is not stressed out. She literally walks over to him and climbs all around him. The only thing he does is become totally freaked out. He puffs up, and walks away. Because she only got here like yesterday, i placed her back in her terrarium so she can get used to her enclosure and starts to eat and drink.

What's wrong? Does he need more time? Are male verrucosus always this 'shy' and careful?

My pardalis male got a glimpse of her. He is ready as hell, he was head bobbing and is now 'searching' for her...

Maybe he just doesn't want to do the deed in front of you? Leave her in his enclosure for a while to see what happens. As long as there is no aggression, I do not see a reason as to why they couldn't co-habitate if there is enough room for the both of them.

Well he lives in a well planted 24x24x48 and well ventilated glass enclosure. I will put her in his enclosure again if she is a bit more accustomed.

Thanx!

Anybody else that has breeding experience with verrucosus?

Have you tried putting the male in the female's enclosure for breeding attempts?

Nope not yet. But her enclosure is much to small for him. It's 18x18x24.

It would be fine if you are just introducing them to try to get a breeding going. I'd try leaving him in there for about 30 minutes. If that doesn't work, bring her over to the male's enclosure the next day, just so they calm down and everything.

Well, i found out that he felt it was winter.

A breeder from who i borrowed the female, advised me on turning up the heat. His basking temperature was about 90. Now i replaced the basking spot with a bulb with a higher wattage. Now the temperatures in a good 104!

He became much more active, moving around more. So I tried again by putting her in his enclosure. This time he knew exactly what he had to do! He started nodding his head.. He is very cautious though, no rough approaches. Softly he was swinging from left to right, nodding his head, showing off his beautiful colors. But he is sooo shy so i peeked in the room from the hallway. I stood their for a good 45 minutes. He didn't approach her yet.
The female just stayed in her own spot. She became a wonderful salmon pink with a purple shine. I left the two alone for the afternoon because i had to run for a birthday party.

Well i wonder how it is tomorrow when the lights are back on!
