breeding hornworms: tobacco extract

Hi,
I am going to embark on breeding hornworms here really soon. I am waiting for tomato plants to be avail in the stores..... I have seen kits for breeding hornworms that come with a tobacco extract. I was wondering if anyone has tried inticing the moths to lay eggs by using the tobacco extract instead of a tomato plant.. what were the results?
