I believe it has to do with the spikes on the spine. More pronounced over females...

How are they keeping wise?

He will require more room (eventually) than a panther, more heat, less humidity and they're relatively shy. This is my 1st one and I've had him less than 24 hrs. He is approx 5 inches snout to vent. Any guesses on his age?? Also, I've read that they consume copious amounts of water...
