Blue LED lights worth it?

I have the set up from light your reptiles and it has the blue LED's and i was wondering if it really is worth it? I have heard mixed reviews please let me know what you think?

"worth it" for what purpose?
what are you expecting to get out of the LEDs other than additional light (and apparently in a not so natural colour)? The only time I've known people to use blue LEDs is for night lighting, which chameleons do not need or want.

I give LED's aesthetically a thumbs up but, honestly would you have them lit at night? Can be potentially stressful for your chams, if so.

Yeah I would just make sure they don't run at night. If your cham enclosure is in a low light spot I can see how the extra lights would help but if anything they are just for looks. Everyone has different prefereances for their stuff!

Got Pics?

Well they actually come in the light fixture it self i can run them but i dont right now. Some people say it reflects the moon, and i wouldnt not run them all night. I know i saw someone with a winter light schedule that had the blue leds as well. i was just wondering it would only be fore prob about 1/2 hour after lights out and 1/2 hour before lights on

here is the Blue LED picture they only ran for 30mins after lights out and about 30mins before she wakes up i tried it for one day. I saw it on the blog about winter lighting.

Thats interesting, are you sure the fixture was not intended for a reef tank? I have blue led moon lighs in my T5HO for the tank. Not sure I would use it for the Chams.

Well Todd with LYR said i could use them or not, it didnt really change anything with were she slept or woke up on the morning. Some say its to simulate the moon or something but tried it once and it was not that big of a deal so i probably wont do it again.

Some folks like the effect and some don't.

I persnally think its kind of cool if it doesn't bother them in a large cage.

They are on a separate switch for LYR 4 bulb HO t5 Models.....

so one could actually put them on a 4.99 wall mart timer to stay on about an

hour or two after main lights go out

to simulate a "DUSK" and give the animals some TRANSITION TIME to settle in for the night.:)

I think that is the most sensible use of LED nite lights.:D

Also:
BIG HINT
You can partially cover/ black them out by coloring over the lens with a black sharpie marker if you (or the critters) think they are too bright!

If you "ooops' and black them out too much with a sharpie marker... then a rubbing alcohol wipe with will clean it right off and you can start over and experiment.

You can also adjust the color to more of a "nocturnal purple" by coloring them over with red sharpie marker.

Or -
since they are on all 4 bulber HO t5 4 bulb models as a free option.....

I just get them made that way and have them made special on a separate cord & switch......

so.......

naturally you do not have to use them and can turn them off. (unlike reef tank blue lights on all the time.)
:)

But my recommendation is to have them on a timer and run an hour after lights out to give the animals transition time. (Dusk)

The sun doesn't just "snap" off outside. ;)

The goal is to create the best environment possible for our animals.
;)
Onward and upward!

Cheers!

Thank you,
Todd

I leave the light on in my room for him and my switch has a dimmer on it. So about an hour before bedtime I dim it a little like every 15 mins until I put it completely out.

while on the subject of LED nite lights....

These are new in RED and Blue from Arcadia.

Tree frog, gecko and Tarantula folks seem to love the red.

With a dash of imagination... you could imagine the Red as a tropical sunset and the Blue as twinkling moon-lite. :)

Plus, some say the animals will "see" the red less than blue... but I am not 100% sure on that.

If only we could actually see the world through their revolving eyes... HOW INTERESTING WOULD THAT BE!

Cheers!
