what is the best uvb light for my new translucent baby veiled?

i just picked him up at the local repticon show and the seller sold me the whole set up with a Repti Glo 5.0 florescent tube light but i noticed that after about 2 hours with the light on he was closing his eye closest to the light. this is my 1st cham so i only know what i read.

Welcome to the Chameleon Forums. I personally prefer this UVB bulb:

but some on here do use the Repti Glo 5.0. I would move it up 6 to 8 inches off the enclosure. New bulbs put out to much UV for babies and it hurts their eyes. Do you have any pictures of your new guy? Does he have a name yet?

yeah i only use reptisun for my bearded dragon. but the guy at the show insisted on me getting a reptiglo. he was probably just trying to make more sales.
i went ahead and ordered a new reptisun 5.0 it should be here in a couple of days.

for now i put some dvds under the light to get it off the top of the cage some and i moved it all the way to the front so it not right on him.

here some pics :) and i havent decided on a name yet

If you keep those DVD cases there, the UVB is going to make the plastic turn yellow, I think... hehe.

Add some live plants like scheflerra, ficus, pothos, hibiscus.. it will help keep humidity up and look better and make the cham feel better.

Needs more walkways as well. Don't forget a hygrometer/thermometer combo.

yeah i ordered a digital thermometer/hydrometer when i ordered my light. at the moment i have just digital thermometer in there.

thanks for telling about the yellow thing with the dvds ill find something else to put there.

is there anything i have to do to the plant before i put it in there? should i wash it and off or anything?

Yes, wash it off. More often than not there will be a gross residue on the plant (makes it look shiny)..
You will want to get that off before putting it in with the chameleon. Veileds are more likely to eat plants than a panther.
