Basking Temp too Low?

Hi again, i am using a 60W bulb for basking, & the highest temp i have seen is 77, falls to about 65 after misting & takes about an hour to rise to 77 again! I looked at wallyworld for a 75W but it went from 60 to 100. The light is about as close as it can get, should i buy an expensive reptile bulb, or can i find a 75 at a specialty lighting store?

ty for your response, i tried Walmart,no luck, & i am from Canada so i only order from the US on bigger orders to help on shipping charges, but at least your suggestion gave me hope that it isnt a special size, so i will try other hardware stores(or whatever stores that carry lightbulbs are called)

No problem. Just keep looking and you'll find one. How cold is it in the room where his cage is though?

What are you using to read the temperatures? Is the thermometer a nice digital one or the cheapos you get at petsmart? This could be your problem.

it is a digital thermo w/probe.....the room temp is 68, so temp went below room temp after misting, but i realized that i could move the light about an inch closer, temp did start to rize, but then i misted, so dont know how high it will get yet.....85 is ideal, correct?

the ideal temp depends on type of chameleon, its age and gendre.

You could just get the 100watt bulb and keep it a bit further away. Or raise the general room temp to 21C / 70F

I have found that a 50w PAR20 flood lamp from Home Depot works great. You can move the lamp away if it's too hot and the thick glass won't break if it gets wet during misting.

I use these lamps on most of my cages.
