Basking spot question....

I posted a thread about our new set up and was told to do something a little closer to the basking area so Ambush didn't need to be on the screen (which is what he was doing and he was getting so hot up there.) So this is what I came up with what do you all think? Am I headed in the right direction here lol. I am planning to get some more vines/plants today as well..

You may want to make his basking spot more horizontal. But it looks good. What is the temp of the basking spot? It should be in the low 80s maybe a little warmer, but no higher than 85. I noticed he is shedding as well, it helps to mist their cage more often since the extra humidity will help him shed.

:)
Yes, it seems you are on the right track;)

Are you using a red bulb for basking?

Yes it is a red bulb it is the one that came with the light I was told there wouldn't be a difference between the red and blue. Is there a difference? They said it would send off the same heat as the blue one does that it just has the red tint to it..

I have to go get some more vines then I will make it more horizontal the other end didn't have anything I could use to tie it up to the cage so I wrapped it around the log to keep it in place. His basking area stays about 80-85 we had to find a different light because the one we had got in the 90's. And at night it stays at about 70-75. I have a vine right under his night light as well.
I have a fogger that I use 15 min. a few times a day along with misting his cage every time I turn the fogger on and then I mist it as well threw out the day. He was shedding when we got him. Would you recommend misting him? Or just the in closer?

I wouldnt mist him directly, just keep the humidity higher in his enclosure.
A little trick to keep branches in place is to slip thumbtacks through the screen into the ends of the branches.. it holds them there pretty nicely, and looks clean
Edit: as long as that red bulb is pruducing the heat he needs it will work. But when that one dies you can just use a rgular house bulb of required wattage.

A white house bulb is better for basking, as it more closely replicates the sun.
A nite lite is not advised, as even the "nite bulbs" can keep them awake.
A 10F temp drop at nite is ideal as well.
Nite temps can go as low as 50F without the need for additional heat.
If you need additional heat, a ceramic heater should be used.
Those analog gauges are almost always way off.
An electric unit can be purchased for pretty cheap, and is well worth it, as temps need to be monitored closely.

You will need to mist at least 3-4 times a day, and for at least 3-4min at a time.

What type of UVB light are you using?

It is a flood light (that is the type our hood uses.) They have a normal blue/white one I can get? And I will look at the electrical units those are just what came with our glass cage. Also the night light I use is blue and doesn't put off any light really but I am sure I could do without if need be just during the winter sometimes our house can get cold so we where planning on just using it during the winter and then not using one during the summer just using the day light and the UVB bulb. The UVB is a 5.0 13 w (that is the size that fits in our light.. I have been misting every 4 hours about and then I do a long mist at night with a longer time running the fogger.

Im a little confused about your lighting:eek::p

What is the flood light?

Most everyone agrees that a plain housebulb is best for basking. They are cheap and do the job well. I use a 60w on my jackson most of the time. You may have to play with a few watts to see what works best for you.

No lights at nite period. They are just unnecessary.;)
Like I said, a ceramic heater can be used if it gets below 50F or 10C in the room the chameleon is in. My chameleon room got down to 55F last nite.

If you can be more specific on your lighting I could assess it more;)
Is the UVB a CFL?

Ok I meant it takes a Halogen bulb Don't ask me why I put flood lol. The UVB says Repti glo 5.0 UVB 13w on the box it is a Exo Terra...

So you are using the halogen flood light, the red light, and the CFl uvb?

What watt is the halogen?

Ok sorry I am new to all this :) Yes I am using both of those the fixture I have is a hood it is a Zilla and it has a place for both of them. And the red light is a 50w.

Haha, your cool!;)

I am still confused though:p

Are there three bulbs? Or just two?

We have two different hoods one has the UVB/Red Halogen in it and the other hood has a normal night bulb that is a moonlight 50w.

Ok! ;)

I would definitely recommend ditching the nite bulb, and switching the halogen for a regular 60ish watt house bulb;)

Also, in an enclosure that large, a linear UVB bulb would be a good idea.
If the UVB and basking lights are right next to each other you should be ok though.;)

I will look into the Linear UVB bulbs. The basking and UVB bulb right now are right next to each other. But I will looking to the hoods that use the Linear UVBs. Thanks for all the help!!! And I will leave the night light off tonight and see where the temp is in the middle of the night to make sure it isn't too cold and if it is where it needs to be above 50 like you said I will not use that one anymore! :)
