Ok so I know that most folks say that they just use the regular house bulbs for their basking spot lamp and that is what I will probably do in the future. For now though I was given a Petco gift card, so Im using that for a few supplies here and there. My question is about the daylight blue reptile bulb from zoo med? I was originally using zoo meds regular colored "Repti basking Spot lamp" and had my temps perfect where my guy seemed to be enjoying it fine. Yesterday that bulb finally burned out, so I went to the store and figured I would try something different just for a change if anything. I ended up trying the blue bulb and went home to hook it up. Well I actually like the difference in the way it lights up the enclosure. To me it looks a little more natural and more subtle than the way the other bulbs look. The other ones to me look like a bathroom being lit up rather than a natural environment. Anyways, I like the look but noticed that I cant get his basking spot back to normal without putting the lamp extremely close to the screen and with the other one I didn't have to have it so close. I could actually keep it about five or six inches above the top wire. They are both the same watt and everything. I was wondering if anyone noticed a difference in the way these two disburse their heat or if anyone else had this happen? Its not to big of a problem or anything as I can just go back and purchase the other bulb ,but I really do like the way this one lights up when compared. On the other hand, I am a little concerned because I don't want to have to leave it to close to the screen in order to maintain proper temps and end up giving him a thermal burn on his casque or anything.
