Baby's 1st day home! Is he okay?

Brought baby Panther home yesterday. He ate last night and this morning he ate 2 pinheads. But he continues to be dark colored. Right now he is basking with his eyes closed. Still dark colored.

I am keeping the temp between 81 and 87 (and im keeping an eye on it)
Humidity is around the 70's.
I have him in the dining room and can see us walking in the adjoining rooms.

Is it just new home anxiety?

I bought him at a reptile store and he was super active at the store and light in color. I have everything set up like in the store and is following everything they told me to do.

Hi, I will just say from years of experience, the best place for information about chameleons, is very rarely a pet store. It may he him adjusting but then again it could be something else. If you would add your information after each question on this form it would help us help you.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
Location - Where are you geographically located?

Oh I totally agree with you. I have been doing a bunch of research before bringing him home. He's really young (2 weeks) so I am just trying to be as cautious as I can right now.

My cham: Ambilobe Panther, 2 weeks, have been in my care 1 day. Dont know his sex yet...though I keep calling him a him (haha).

Handling: Today I handled him once to wipe down his terrarium. Im avoiding handling him right now.

Feeding: Wingless fruitflies (the fruitflies are fed Repashy superfly) and Pinheads (gutloaded with cabbage, carrots, orange, arugula right now). Fed in the late mornings. I have fed him about 12 pinheads today, and from what I have seen he has consumed 7 of them.

Supplements: Dust the crickets everytime I feed with ReptiCal w/ D3. Then every other week with herpivite. I do not dust the wingless fruitflies because the Repashy Superfly is already supplemented.

Watering: Right now I mist 4-5 times a day and provide a drip when I can. I only saw him drink once, but I need to watch his drinking more closely.

Fecal: I have not noticed any droppings yet. I will post when I do! I do not have knowledge if he has or has not been tested for parasites.
History: When at the store he was that lightish brown panther color with alot of pattern and color variations and he was extremely active. He was all over that cage! Now he is dark brown consistently, however....I have noticed when he sees a cricket, sleeps, or right after I put him back on his vine.

Cage type: glass with screen top (i got the same set up as they had him in at the reptile shop to keep some consistency). Approx. a 1 ft. 1/2 x 3/4 ft.
Lighting: ReptiGlo: 2.5 (due to the size of the cage) and a 25W Zoo Med Daylight Blue blub. I am on a 12 hr cycle.
Temperature: Basking: 83-87 degrees. Floor: high 79-82 Lowest overnight is around 75. He hangs out by the basking light all the time. He is never on the floor.
Humidity: They stay around 70% throughout the day, when I mist they go up to around 85 or so.
Plants: I am not using live plants right now. Using fake vines and foliage.
Placement: In the dining area. Occasionally we walk through there to get something to eat. But we do not sit or spend time in that area. No air vents. No fans. The top of the cage is approx. 5 feet about the floor.
Location: Central Florida. And we keep the air conditioning off most of the time, so it runs a little humid in our home.

You should not be supplementing with d3 every feeding. you should be using a calcium without d3 and phosphorus every feeding, and using d3 twice a month. also using a multi vitamin twice a month.

Okay, thats what I thought. I keep finding caresheets that say I should supplement with D3 every other day and a few even say everyday.

hello i just got my chameleon today, hes very young only about 5 inches long, i handled him a lot today and he seems happy about it as a matter of fact he doesnt want to go bac to his terrarium which has plenty of branches, hes currently sleeping on my arm, problem is that i dont know what supplements he needs xept for crickets, and i dont know what misting is, i also dont even have a thermometer for his terrarium yet and really dont wany him to die so please tell me everything i need to know to keep him alive and well

Ok you need three supplements, lightly dust with: Calcium with D3 (use twice a month), Calcium with NO D3 or Phosphorus (daily use), and a multivitamin (1-2 times per month.

Have you seen a dropping yet? A healthy cham will have a dropping that consists of one part being dark and the other being a pure white, a little orange is ok but if you don't see much white, up your mistings.

Temperature: Basking: 83-87 degrees. Floor: high 79-82 Lowest overnight is around 75. He hangs out by the basking light all the time. He is never on the floor. Your temps are too hot, stay at 80-81 for a basking temp especially if he's so young and keep ambient temps in the 70s.
Humidity: They stay around 70% throughout the day, when I mist they go up to around 85 or so.
Plants: I am not using live plants right now. Using fake vines and foliage. I'd recommend adding some real plants, they are a lot more natural and look nicer as well.
Placement: In the dining area. Occasionally we walk through there to get something to eat. But we do not sit or spend time in that area. No air vents. No fans. The top of the cage is approx. 5 feet about the floor.

Take a look at what I noted above. Make sure to drop your temps, you may see a change in your chams color and activity. Being so young your temps are a high. Anyways welcome to the forums!! Take a look at this blog, it'll help you!

Mine is the same way. I thought it would stress him...but it did completely the opposite! I couldn't get him off of me! ahaha!
