Hello all! New user here to gain even more knowledge for my baby chameleon. Ok, so I bought him Saturday, one week ago. Everything seemed fine the first night, we were in a hotel that night and headed home the next day. While on the way home he was scratching his eye on my seatbelt. Which made it kind of bulge to the side when he blinked, I gently poked it as to put it back in place cause it freaked me out lol!
Anyways, when we got home I took apart my reptibreeze as my female had passed the Thursday before. I think she may have had got as her joints were swollen and I think she may have obtained an RI at the very end.
Anyways, I used a half cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water and wiped and sprayed the cage after removing the lay bin, vines, leaves and such. Anything that was going to be used for him was cleaned thoroughly. Set for a few minutes, and then my husband rinsed everything twice.
So we got him set up and all, new UVB bulb and fixture was on the way (arrived Thursday this week) bulb arrived broken, so had to order another and use 5.0 for a couple days until the 10.0 came in today.
Wednesday he acted as if he could not open his eyes, so we called the vet and took him in the next morning. He had opened them once the night before after I set him in a soak bin (very little water) for 15 minutes. Closed them again for a little bit that night, opened them for the vet luckily. But has had them closed more since after the vet. Right now he seems to be doing better! I did get him to eat 3 Dubia earlier, his eyes are open and he is climbing around his cage!
My main question is if I need to up humidity or keep it the same? And when I do his eye drops his eyes are usually closed, it also doesn't help that his eye holes are smaller than the drop itself!! Looking for an easier way to help with that, as it seems even when they are open he closes them when he sees the dropper bottle! Thank you so much in advance! I hope I have provided a good amount of information!
    • Your Chameleon - sex-male veiled. I have had it in my care for 1 weeks
    • Handling - Mostly to try to give him meds or roaches
    • Feeding - Small Dubia (has only eaten 4 since I got him (3 of those were today)
    • Supplements - Repticalcium and Reptivitie
    • Watering - I have a bug dripper on the top of the cage. I have a monsoon mister and he gets misted for 2 minutes every 3 hours, I have seen him drink.
    • Fecal Description - Looks good to me, solid, no diahrrea or anything unusual.
    • History - Bought him from Petco a week ago, went to vet Thursday. Vet said eye infections can be the first sign of Respiratory and gave Baytril and eye drops. We took him to the vet because he acted as if he could not open his eyes. The next day after vet he starts gaping. When I give meds and try to give food I know he a popping noise, no mucus or bubbles.

    Cage Info:
    • Cage Type - Reptibreeze, large I think
    • Lighting - Reptisun t5 HO, 5.0 until today, now 10.0. Basking is a flood light 65W, in a flukers in dome.
    • Temperature - Usually ambient is 75, and basking 80-85 I think, but since he is sick I have raised it to 92-95 for basking and 85 ambient
    • Humidity - Not really measured but I use my mister and a big dripper
    • Plants - Live Pothos
    • Placement - Was in my bedroom against a wall on top of my mini fridge, I have a wall of reptiles. Now in his own room so I could bump up temps and not melt my cresteds, and he has more privacy.
    • Location - Lawton, Oklahoma

    Current Problem - Eye/Respiratory Infection

Be careful when giving it the eye drops that none goes into its mouth.

As long as it's drinking well the humidity should be ok if you're misting and using a dripper.
