 *male veiled chameleon. Noticed he is rubbing one eye on branches in cage. he bulges it out and it is slightly discolored when he does that. i just bought him about two weeks ago. Other than that he is fine and seems like an average baby. Very active but tends to run away from and sort of handling, but once hes out of his cage he is fine. He often puffs out his neck and opens his mouth to hiss. I dont want to think he is having eye problems already so please give any advice, I'm open to anything you guys have to say and if i should be doing ANYTHING differently. Also I have terramycin I applied to his eye, around the area he bulges out. But this freaked me out becausehe wouldnt open his eye and was hissing alot, it did no harm but I dont know if i should apply again since he's so young. He opens both of his eyes and they look fine, but when he bulges it out i know it cant be good. Noticed this about a week ago and it is now happening more than the other days. so I'm just trying to solve this issue before it gets worse. Please read this and let me know if i should keep applying terramycin!
- 14X14X16 screened enclosure

- About two months old

- Live organic ficus about 13" tall

-UVB Swirl light fixture with a baskeing bulb, not sure what size but basking bulb is about7inches away from where he sits to bask

- The cage usually stays a little over 85 degrees.

-Humidy is between 50 and 60 (which is a little low but i spray tank with water and have a big dripper for the tank)

No problems with him eating or drinking water off leaves

- Havnt seen him eat any of the plant yet

-For vitamins i give him zoo-med calcium with no d3 on small crickets on a daily basis, and multivitamins and calcuim with d3 from rep call every other week dusted on small crickets

Sometimes ficus can cause eye issues, so you may want to try removing that and using something else, like a pothos.

i would try a heavy misting, and let him get his eye cleaned out.

You mentioned that you have a ,"UVB Swirl light fixture with a baskeing bulb, not sure what size but basking bulb is about7inches away from where he sits to bask"

Do you have a UVB bulb or just a basking bulb?
Which UVB bulb are you using--if you're using one?

Thanks very much, Im going to mist more times a day as I just did, but this problem was happening before the ficus came in a few days ago. If nothings changing in a few days ill look for a organic pothos. Any website you guys know of for organic plants, cage safe? And more remedies for the bulging eye and rubbing, that'd be awesome too! Thanks again

Try a local nursery or home depot or lowes for plants.

just long heavy warm water mistings for now. more than likely, something is just in the eye and the bulgin is how they get it out.

Glad that he has both bulbs.
I asked about the UVB bulb because some chams get eye irritation and other eye troubles when a 10.0 strength bulb is used.
The bulb should have the info printed on it or the base.
