YAY! I finally got my dream fish! A Porcupine Puffer!!! He's adorable, and cute, and spikey, and pretty. He is a little stressed right now, but he should be fine in a bit:) Anyone else got marine fish, or puffer fish?

Can u post some pics of it I want to see how cool it looks.and congrats.I use to have a 10gallon saptwater tank but it was touch work to clean it and stuff.

I LOVE puffers. They are so personable and are one of my favorite fish. I don't do saltwater (...yet...?) but have had Malabar (pea) puffers before. You should post some pics of your little guy once he calms down! I don't know how it is for saltwater stuff, but wetwebmedia.com is an awesome site to use if you need advice or troubleshooting.

LOVE puffers, i have tanks full of them, now i have a dogface and a converted (from brackish to salt) spotted, ive also kept figure eights, figure spots, fahaka, peas, and porcupines. I love it when i walk in the room and see them pacing the glass for food.

Puffers are awesome! Unfortunately, I don't have room for another fish. Especially not another agressive one! I already have a Naso Tang, Humu Humu Trigger, Maroon Clown, Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish, Coral Beauty, Flame Hawkfish, and a couple damsels. Maybe I need another tank... ;)

Humu Humus are VICIOUS! I had one that was extremely territorial, i woke up one morning to find one of my porcupine puffers dead because my Humu Humu grabbed him and battered him against the rocks !

Pea puffers are very easy and small. Have you considered one?

I used to have 2 spotted green puffers...I loved them had one for about 3 years and it went on a hunger strike, and then died and shortly after the other one died as well...I want another tank, sadly the apt were I'm living now dosent allow fish tanks over like 10 gallons...

Pea puffers do fine in ten gallons. They are cute little guys and are freshwater (someone correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure of this.)

Taken from http://www.dwarfpuffers.com/ :

"Dwarf Puffers reach an adult size of about 1inch (2.5 cm), making them the smallest of all puffers. They have black eyes that turn blue whenever they are in the light, and the eyes can also move independently of each other (like a chameleon). They can open or close their tail fin depending on if they're stopping or going. They will also "curl" their tail sometimes, which has a variety of meanings; from showing discomfort or sickness to being a form of easing maneuverability. Every now and then you will see them open their mouths up wide as if they're "yawning". Their spots/patches are different colors and shades, from bluish green to black, from light to dark. Depending on their mood, they can change how dark or faded their spots are. I also think that each Dwarf Puffer may have its own individual pattern of markings... kind of a "fingerprint".... no two are the same it seems."

They sound like little chameleons, don't they! :D

More about them from that site:

"The great thing about Dwarf Puffers is that their small size allows them to be kept in smaller fish tanks. You can have all the fun of owning puffers without having to setup the larger tanks that most other puffer species require. The majority of dwarf owners keep theirs in small setups of 5 to 20 gallons (19L to 75L)."

The site also indicates that they are, indeed, freshwater fish and may appreciate a littl ebit of normal (not marine) aquarium salt.

Becareful when feeding more than one they go into sorta a feeding freenzy and take chomps out of each other i have seen this several times my buddy owns a fish store.

LOL yeah thats true ciafardo. and Kenya yes they are freshwater and are one of the only primarily freshwater puffers, along with the congo puffer.

I want a dog face puffer but this has to wait until we do a fish only tank..

Right now we just have a pair of clown fish. Anything else we try has either committed suicide ( jumped out) or been sacrificed to the fish gods (killed). We dont know what is causing it.. Tang was found with his eyes missing. Damsel, starfish, and Chromis vanished, Goby jumped out, firefish was found half eaten, and most recently, our sea star was found with all its tentacles cut off..No clue...

So yea, LOL..

Gobys are notorious for jumping out of their tanks but as for the others idk.....kids maybe? And what do you mean fish only tank?

One of our loaches lost an eye. We weren't sure if it caught it on something in the tanks or if one of the other fish ate the eye. Just treated the water and it healed and he copes fine. That's the only thing with fish, some are just aggressive and will eat the others. My mum had one that everytime new fish were put in the tank, would constantly attack it and then eat it. Nightmare fish!

Yup thats what happened with my Humu Humu, he killed every one of his tankmates, and whenevre wed try to find him a new one...DEAD, he only had one tankmate that he couldnt kill because he would hide in the rocks, a moray eel.

Wow, i never expected such a response from everyone. But I have some horrible news:( Overnight I ended up with a Nitrite explosion, all of my fish except for Shuo, my green spotted puffer, died:( *BAWL*

I am glad at least that Shuo is still alive, I've had him the longest, he's indistructable. I've raised him from a little baby puffer in low end brackish, all the way up to marine. I'd be devistated if he died. I woke up this morning to find everyone dead but him so I grabbed him out of the tank, drove to Big Al's and they kindly put him into a spare marine tank they had. Later on today I'll pick him up. I just need to get the tank stable again. I'm also upgrading to a 75gal tank. Sighs. I never wanna go through that again. Poor puffers, poor Shuo, and my poor little gobies. They were doing so well, but now:(:( *BAWL*

I had that happen also, my puffer is now 3 years old, he was an only fish in a 5 gal, then to a 20 gal brackish, then to a 30 gal salt, he also survived a nitrate explosion that killed one of my favorites, my brackish moray and my fahaka puffer.
