Baby Dino

Thanks everyone!
Nico-how long did those guys bake? :)
Way to long, this is an ankaramy baby hatching, and the clutch is about 15.5 months old now. I have some that have been out of the egg for a month and a half now and some hatched only a couple weeks ago too. 10 have hatched from this clutch so far (not including this dude), and one baby hatched at about 7 months (wierd), but he never grew at all, and ended up dying after a month. The other 9 that have been hatching over the past month and a half are doing awesome except one was really really tiny, and died 3 or 4 days after she hatched. I had been candling this clutch carefully over the past 8 months or so, and about 2 months ago, all of the eggs looked to have fully developed neonates in them but they weren't hatching so I added a good amount of water, and now the babys are gradually coming out from this lonnnggggggg incubation time. I will post some more pictures of some baby on here tomorrow if they are out. I have eggs sweating from Oscar, one of my ambilobes, but only one is pipped, and I cant see any baby snouts yet. They are starting to hatch after 8 months and 5 days (thats more like it:rolleyes:)

Here is more on the ankaramy clutch of mine taking forever

Wow Nico that is awesome thanks for the picture share.... also that seems like a long time to incubate 15.5 months... any reasons? or is this something that can happen sometimes?

These babys are hatching on a 50/50 mix of perlite and vermiculite. This particular clutch was given to me when they were about 3.5 months old. I personally don't use this medium, I use hatchrite now with all my eggs. As for the long wait, I really couldn't tell you. All my ambilobes hatch out right in the 8 month range, and this is the only other locale I have hatched out so far, so I have nothing to compare it to. Some people argue long incubation periods for pinks, while some don't see them any different. The last clutch laid by the parents of this clutch was 14 eggs, and they hatched out after 9.5 months, all within a 24hour period, and all the hatchlings were eating 1/4 crickets out of the egg. They were massive, and not one of them died. I think alot of it has to do with the condition of the female before they were laid. This clutch was actually a retained sperm clutch, and the first clutch the female laid, the eggs went bad....

Interesting Nico. I hope you'll use this thread to update us. I'm interested to see how things turn out.

Seriously good....

I can seriously say that I don't remember ever seeing hatchling photos as good as the ones shared on this thread. My gosh they are clear and crisp. I wish you all the best with these babes. It is a more difficult locale to hatch out in my opinion. I have to admit that I have not had the best of luck with that locale myself. I hope to see lots of future photos of them as they grow and start coloring up!

Thanks guys. I am taking these photos with the kit d40 lense, and cropping them so we can get a closer look. I am crossing my fingers for these pinks too. I had one hatch like 6-7 months ago from this clutch, and it died after like a month. I am paying special attention to temperatures and the hydration needs of these babys. I have a couple that are right at 1.5 months old or so and one of them is about 2 inches from head to tail. cross your fingers, I will keep this thread updated with pics of this clutches progress.

Where does the 'sweat" come from?

I had the 2001 Space Odyssey playing in my head, looking at this photos. :p

Someone say "pinks" ?
