Australian Stick Bugs

I bought some pink winged stick bugs and some Australian stick bugs from Nick Barta a member of CF.

The Australian stick bugs were not what I expected. They are HUGE!

Has anyone fed Australian stick bugs? How big an insect could a 70 to 80 gram chameleon eat? Should I just let them give me babies and feed off the babies?

Nick?

For what it's worth, my favorite is the Indian stick bug. The adults aren't too big to feed.

Most people have told me that the Austalian variety is not a good feeder because of all the spines. Hopefully Nick will have a better answer though.

I have emailed, but for the response to the thread, here ya go:

The Australian Stick bugs do have spikes, but they are not as hard as the Jungle Nymph and other stick insect species.

The Australian Stick as an adult is too expensive to use economically as a feeder for most, but a colony will give you lots of feeders.

Often the Australian becomes a pet, as they are slow-moving, and will stay on your clothes so kids like them. I use it to educate my grandkids that you do not need to fear an insect just because it looks dangerous, sometimes their looks are part of their defense, but they are harmless; just like some people!

All hoodies do not contain a hood.:D

CHEERS!
