Hi all, just have a quick question about breeding. I have a male panther who is about a year and 6 months and a female who is a year and 3 months. We decided to try to breed them. We started be removing the barrier between their cages so they could see each other. Our female looked like she could see him but then turned around and face the other way. Since we weren't sure if she had seen him we then took him out of his cage and put him on the screen outside of her cage where she could definitely see him. She did not puff up or turn dark. She actually turn her head to look at him like she was interested not mad. So we put him in the cage toward the bottom since she was up toward the top and I wanted to have enough warning to get him out if anything went wrong. So she was still looking at him like actually turning her head down to see him and he slowly started walking towards her. He didn't bob his head at all. Then as he got closer he began to curl his tail puff up and put his arm in that pissed off right angle position. As soon as he began puffing up so did my female. She gaped and looked pissed but didn't get super black just a little darker than she had been. So I'm just wondering what went wrong. Is the female not receptive and I just didn't see the signs. Or did the male mess it all up by puffing up and not bobbing at her. How long should I wait to try again? Did I use the right technique in introducing them or should I make some changes? Any help would be appreciated. Here are a couple piks of them puffing up. It won't let me post them all so I will post more in another post
