Are pet stores allowed to sell veiled chameleons this young?

I went to petco today to buy some hornworms for Embo and I always like to take a look at the reptiles they have for sale and I spotted this very very young veiled that looks very unhealthy. Are pet stores even allowed to sell them this young?

That chameleon is at most 1 month old which is way to young. This applies to all chameleon species chameleons should be sold at at least 3 months old leave a complaint about the store and try not to shop there to often.

I will be leaving a complaint but that is the closest way for me to get crickets and other feeders (other than dubias I breed them). I only buy feeders from them everything else is a scam.

I said this recently on another post and it is fitting for yours too... I recommend writing a letter to headquarters! They have no business selling these animals and I believe they come from “puppy mill” type situations, so they crank them out and have to push them out as young as possible..:(

Sounds like a plan, I will begin work on writing a letter later this week.

I keep and occasionally breed my veileds and I’d say 2 months old by the size of the casque. Does your baby have a little bump on the heels of both back feet! If so then you have a male. The girls don’t have the bumps. This is my blog above for baby veileds, You need to make sure to pay close attention to the way you keep him/her. It’s harder to keep the younger ones alive.

Petco's site says they sell their chameleons at around 4-6 weeks. I'd say the one in question is around 8 weeks, give or take. So yes, they can sell them that young. What they can do and what they should do are two different things. Also, Petco feeders are very low quality. Perhaps you would want to look around online for healthier feeders instead of giving money to a company like Petco.

I have and most places I order from are completely out of crickets for the most part, Josh’s frogs was out for a while, if you have any recommendations I would love to know what you use.

This is another reason I keep a list/spreadsheet of feeder vendors.

MissSkittles has the right idea; try vendors whose main business is crickets—it wouldn't be good to get caught short.

These are not endorsements; I just picked out those with "cricket" in their name on the first 2 pages of a search.
