Are Hoyas ok?

Hi there,

I've seen online several places list Hoya Exotica as safe for chameleons. Although I really want to believe this (because they are great plants, have fragrant flowers, and I already have one!) they are in the milkweed family.

When cut or damaged they do milk. Does anyone use them? I have a miniature variety.. A perfect addition for my enclosure... But I am not adding it unless someone here has had luck with it. Plus they could live just off the misting, they are succulent and don't need/want soggy feet.

Thanks!

If by misting you mean squirting with a hand misting bottle, the water won't be an issue. If you have a misting system, it will probably die. The milky plants are bitter tasting, so if the chameleon tried to eat it it would be a one-bite lesson. If you don't have a Veiled, biting of the plant most likely will not happen.

CHEERS!

hoya

Hi, I have also heard that hoya is safe around chams. I have 8or10 and Oz my chameleon has been in several of them. He isn't a plant eater though. And hoyas are sturdy and really dont need a lot of attention. There are hundreds of different kinds. They vine real easy , two of mine are growing on poles set into their pots. Oz seems to like to climb on them. By the way there's a hoya forum.
