anyone in the Hampshire or Surrey UK? Help!

Hey i need help on tracking down a good reptile vet for my cham. he's gotten worse since i took him to a vets in southampton. he didnt seem to be a great vet he told me my cham was perfectly healthy just needed his teeth brushing. but now hes gotten worse & sleeping in the daytime for a little bit but awake at night. he just fell asleep on his climbing frame so i tried to wake him to put him to bed but he didnt want to open his eyes. im now really worried & want to take him to a good chameleon vet. anyone out there who can help?

Sorry you are having trouble with him. I will ask my friend who she goes to - she lives in Ashford, Middlesex but she might know of one. I am on the Isle of Wight so I don't know of any mainland vets. I also have another friend in Gosport who might be able to help. I will ask them and get back to you.

if your talking about the one in your profile pic, thats a female veiled and if its sick she may be eggbound beacuse the colors in the pic are of a mature female. She needs a laying bin asap...if its already past her being able to lay her only chance is surgery and removeal of the eggs.

Thank you, your a star. i just dont want him to get worse. i know sleeping in the day is the worse thing for a cham to do.

no the female is fine its my boy thats not well. i had a previous thread about his first problem being he wouldnt use his tongue but the vet done blood tests & they all came back fine. the vet said we need to brush his teeth tamodine as he had a little bit of bacteria build up on his teeth but nothing to worry about as its normal in chams. i dont entirely trust that vet as no one else has ever heard of brushing a chams teeth.

i live in portchester (between portsmouth and southampton) and have actually had some luck with finding a good vet for pascal, since being a baby he has had 3 different vets - a checkup vet who doesnt specialise in reptiles but knows a good bit, a vet abit further away for when something goes wrong, and then a VERY highly recommended specialist just in case
my "if something goes wrong vet" is called Downlands Vets, and is the one in emsworth, it has two reptile specialists who are used to chameleons - david vawer and ben trimmer. these guys are really friendly, know their stuff and from my experience get it right first time, they fixed pascals eye problem straight away with eye drops, told me how to use them, etc, showed me a few things about pascal and invited me back just to make sure the treatment was working. the staff are lovely, and pascals treatment only cost me £40
my emergency contact is a well recommended "zoological vet" who does all the advanced surgery on rare exotics etc, has a weekly schedule so booking him could be a bit of a pain, but he was very friendly on the phone and is another one that isnt going to bullshit money out of you, he's called John Chitty, lost his phone number since getting a new mobile but what i did was email him with details of the problem, leave him my number and he actually rang me back - here is his website http://www.jcexoticpetconsultancy.co.uk/page9.html

I've spoken to one of the ladies, and she said she has used on in Andover but couldn't remember the name. She currently goes to Animals R Us in Sunbury- the Vet's name is Shaun, but they also have surgeries if Feltham and Hayes, but I realise this may be a bit far to travel.

Aww thank you i just booked him in to see Ben Trimmer on monday. i just hope he doesnt get worse over the weekend.

unfortunantly not. i was told to brush his teeth with tamodine. ive tried twice & it failed my female doesnt mind but my male hates it. he just tries to eat the cotton bud lol

Hi just a little update if anyone wanted to know. my poorly Bruce has an infection in his mouth so hes got some antibiotics & a check up in a week. but the vet said he should make a ful recovery as we've caught it early & hes a strong boy thanks for all your help. we took him to Ben Trimmer at Downlands. they were fantastic id definetly recommend them!!!

So glad you found somewhere! Catching things early is key with chameleons, it's so difficult as they often don't show any symptoms until things are more advanced. Here's to a full recovery!
