I am looking to eat better food. I am planning on making my own food too. Fresh herbs do a long way in making things taste better, what else should I know about making good and healthy food? I am a meat eater just to let you know.

I love zuccini, portabello mushrooms, squash, mushrooms in general, salmon, trout, tuna, spinach, cabbage, really anything except broccilo rabe and kale!

Oh yum, I've always wanted to do this but I'm a terrible cook. I've recently started using Blue Agave instead of sugar and my soda consumption is down quite a bit... though I can't help but stop in at BK or McD's every now and then.

There is probably a different place on the web where you can go if you google. I'm not sure if you will get much about food unless it's food for chams or crickets here. Good luck.

hah yeah i feel you, my younger brother literally trains 9 hours a day of some sport and he remains to look great. He'll come home with a big mac and i feel like im missing out on the world!!! LOL... I do train every night to keep in shape but my genes suck and i am older than him!

My downfall is italian and mexican food, i F'ing love it so much. the breads, the cheese, the breads, the cheese! lol... and the fatty filled beef haha.

I honestly didn't drink one soda for 2 years +, not sure why it is so damn hard for me to quit this time around, possibly because i quit all the other pleasures smoking, drinking etc.:eek:;).....

I recently got back into seltzer water, love it when its ice cold.

Ive have honestly tried to eat healthier but I swear I keep coming back to the chocolate and the fast foods T.T
I have a little advice tho :p
When I crave chocolate (my favorite, im 18 almost 19 and i still freak out when its close to holloween) I will just eat fruit because i mean its not exactly the same but it is sweet and that helps :)

Last august I went in for a pre-op blood test and the doc was like "You have diabetes" so for the last year Ive been trying to eat better. Ive not only watched my sugar intake but also caloric intake as well as carbs.

I found a really good healthy food recipe site a while ago. It had some really good stuff on there. Ill have to see if I can find it again.

Ive never been a big soda person luckily. I tend to like fruit drinks. You are the first person Ive ever head of that actually likes Seltzer water! lol

My problem with eating is portions.

I can only go so far with seltzer water. REAL ginger ale is a little better.. pay close attention to ingredients.
Anything with the words corn syrup or similar is not bought by me. If anything I'll just put a little lemon in my water. I should invest in a juicer.

Allrecipes.com put in the food you like, and search. I use this site alot. You have to sort through some recipes to find the healthiest ones. Mostly I use it for ideas, and change up the recipes to make them more healthy, or just to my tastes. example, I use fresh vegetables instead of canned, whole wheat or veg noodles, no salt or less salt solution etc. You don't have to give up flavor at all. Using fresh herbs is a good way to go as well. Very tasty and aromatic!! I've had GI issues since I was 10yo. I'm now 34 and able to control most of it through diet. A lot of what I eat is not appealing to everyone, but not everyone makes their own food!! Well and my baby brother is a chef, so I guess that helps with ideas!! :p:p Good luck!!

There are lots of places on the web for recipies. the Wholefoods website has a ton of recipies and many of them are simple.

I cook really well, not to pat my own back. Do you have an outdoor grill? Here's one of my favorites, if so:
Asian Lime Ribs:

For rib rub:
2 T ground cinnamon
2 T. sea salt
2 T. freshly crushed black pepper
1 T ground cloves
1 T ground coriander

- first, pull the "underskin" skin off the bottom of the ribs! If you have a butcher, have him do that for you. That tough membrane is why some dummies have parboiled ribs since the turn of the century. Just pull it off -it'll usually come off in one piece. The end product is WAY more tender if baked in an oven than boiled -IF that is removed.
-one spoiled southerner tip: baby backs come from the loin rib section. That doesn't show up at Costco. Real baby backs are from a young pig and weigh about a pound. If they weigh more than that -they ain't baby backs.
Season the ribs with this stuff, then "dock" in between each rib with a fork. If you have time, stick 'em in the fridge overnight. If not, try to give 'em at least an hour. Then put in a baking pan, cover tightly with 2-3 layers of foil, seriously -make sure that foil is snug enough to keep in an air molecule. In you oven, slow-roast in a 250 oven for about two hours. Check after an hour an a half, you want the meat to pull away from the bone and it be a sconch less than fork-tender, but not so tender that they fall apart if you lift 'em.

For the marinade (really just basting sauce):
3 T ginger, coarsely chopped
3 T garlic, the same
3/4 cup rice vinegar
1/2 cup Soy sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro DE-STEMMED
1/3 cup fresh lime juice
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup Hosin sauce
2T dark sesame oil
2 T crushed red pepper flakes

Stir that stuff together. Pull out ribs from oven and baste 'em, reserving extra sauce. Throw on grill at medium direct heat for 5 minutes on each side, turning diagonally until you've turned 'em 8 times.

Serve with cucumbers with mint-vinaigrette:

Puree in blender:
10 mint leaves (which I usually hate)
1/4 cup sugar
2 T fresh ginger
1 t crushed red pepper

Toss with 1-2 English cucumbers, thinly sliced on mandoline -or just cut thin if you're handy with a knife. Get it chilled.

Now pour each guest a bowl of dippin' sauce, a sidecar of the cukes, and an ear of grilled corn. If they aren't your fave ribs, I want your recipe. Seriously, this is coming from one of the biggest haters of about 6 major ingredients in this slop on the planet. I'd rather eat crickets than cilantro, cinnamon, mint, or coriander. This works equally well on pork or beef ribs.

Edit: I just realized you said "healthy" right in the title. It took so long to type this out, I'm not switching to tofu now! Sorry, but I still hope someone tries them.
