Hi there welcome to the forum. Looks like a female, I am not seeing any tarsal spurs. But baby should not be closing its eyes like that. Having them right in front of a window is going to mess up ambient temps making them too hot or too cold. Do you have UVB lighting on this cage?

Yes I do, I just asked son here the other day about natural sunlight and they said it was very good for them. I am so new at this and trying so very hard to get it right but I always get contradictory information help…

Sorry if my reply was confusing. I meant if you take your chameleon outside for unfiltered sunlight - not thru any barriers such as glass. Real sunlight in the outside is very healthy and natural. Thru glass and other similar barriers, you’ll need to be careful that things don’t overheat - think greenhouse effect.

Hello there! I am new as well. You are right, there is a lot of conflicting information out there about caring for these little guys. What I have found the most helpful, is finding a mentor/information and just sticking to that one person. I personally get all of my care information from the Chameleon Academy. In case you find it helpful, I have linked the information I use below:

So in your other thread you were given the husbandry form to copy and paste into your reply and then fill out as detailed as possible. Then you want to add pictures of your entire cage including the lights on top. This is how we are able to know everything to figure out what is wrong. You may only get alerts for one person replying to your thread so you want to scroll through your thread so you are not missing messages from other members that are trying to help. Here is the other thread with the husbandry form. https://www.chameleonforums.com/threads/new-owner.189263/

So you really think female maybe that’s why I have been getting it all wrong. Rexi had what I think was a respiratory infection around the end of December . Took to the vet they gave me some antibiotics. Since I have to hold to force the medication in, she hasn’t opened her eyes much. I have tried and tried to get her back to good health but now being a female what do I need to do differently . I just feel everything I try makes her worse . Now I’m also having to hand feed or she will starve because she can’t find food

It really sounds as if you and Rexi will really benefit a great deal from a full husbandry review. In it, we can find any potential problems and advise you on how best to correct them. Chameleons are not the easiest of animals to take care of and we can certainly help you to get everything right. :)

I'm a 4mo old, 1st time, Cham Parent. The key to receiving advice is trusting your gut and determining how that advice fits into your scheme. Even Vet's without Cham experience/knowledge can get it wrong. The thing I've found most helpful here is experience, passion, consistency, and availability. In the summer, my guy is by a window. Keep in mind that the advice is beware of overheating. It's insulated, has black out curtains, and extra thermometers. Winter arrived, I had to move the enclosure. I could not get my basking temp right. In other words, I listened to the advice and made it work for me and Carmelo.

so what I have learned in my chameleon group is they need live plants, the lighting should be a basking light and a t5 for uvb, no substrate, temperature gun to make sure Temps are good. I posted a picture of a recommended schedule for dusting the food. they also need something like the xl reptibreeze cage. hope this helps.
