i just got the two flapneck chameleons i ordered today...and to my surprise they are tiny!!! the pics i saw made them look like the size of a adult pymgy...so i had set up a custom screened cage ..about a 15 gallon size ..with plants etc...these flapnecks have to be 4 or 5 days old ...i was caught off guard.I purchased a plastic "breeding cage" made by exo terra it is pretty small..but plenty of room for them...my issue is heating ...any thoughts on how i should go about heating them? the cage is palstic and small so im not sure yet?

Oh wow-who in the world sold you those infants? If your room temp is in the mid 70's I would not worry about heat for the moment. If you put a Reptisun 5.0 about 10" above them it will heat the air just a tad. Are you prepared with pinhead crix and/or fruit flies?

i got them from kingsnake classifieds...the photo is very misleading but i dont mind i just wish i wouldnt have wasted time on the bigger cage..and have been more prepared....they are awesome lookin and very animated..and bite ..alot:eek: the room temp now is 64...and during the day hoovers around 70 75..would that be ok..can they do without a basking spot///and i just purchased a big jar of fruit flies from a great family ran pet store around my house

I wouldn't want babies much below 70 but people differ on that. You will need the bigger cage soon enough.

would a ten gallon with maybe a 25watt baskin spot be ok or will this make getting food to hard

these are some pics of the tank jones5233...they are very active and are drinking alot....

I have some babies and am keeping them in a plastic shoe box with a nylon stocking over it. If you tie off the legs the body fits great! Just make sure they aren't control top. I have a paper towel on the bottom and a few plastic aquarium plants in the box. The little babies have been running around and growing just fine! I have a used 5.0 UVB bulb I have propped up on some boxes on either side. My house doesn't get very cold here in FL so the temps are good.

good to know..thanks for your help...and im jealous of the florida weather! chicago is unpreditable

update!!! one of them ate a fly...good sign....i always wanted flapnecks but i didnt want to waste time on a wild caught

I have no experience with flapnecks.
But I personally wouldnt do a basking spot. Being so small, the chance of overheating is too real. Keep your house at 69F at night until they get a bit bigger. 70-75 during the day is fine, i think. Put the UVB light over one end of your little tank or plastic tub, such that they can get no more than 6 inches close to it. It will give off just a wee bit of heat if they need it. Or maybe an appliance bulb, 10watts, over the far end (allowing them to escape the heat if needs be).

Here is what I have for neonates:
I am using a large plastic Kritter Keeper at the moment, no lid.
It is inside of a small screened enclosure (on an upside down sterlite drawer to get it closer to the UVB tube)
I have a basking light with a 40 watt household bulb mounted on the shelving unit outside the screened enclosure. The UVB tube is resting on top of the screen enclosure.
Basically I have a small plastic enclosure housed in the screen enclosure. Safe from cats and proper distance from lights ,,, also allows for a bit higher humidity.
Once the babies are bigger they will be in the screen enclosure.

Are these two of the $14 flaps?
They look healthy, but quite small in the seller's picture on kingsnake.
I actually considered buying some at that price ... even the whole clutch, but my hands are full and I think it would be hard to sell them.
I love them! Good Luck!
