Am I in for trouble?

I came home from work. I go to Lily's cage. 20 mins later still can not find her. so I start moving the leaves looking. I put my hand in the laying bin and feel.
I can't see well since it is in the back side and the plant leaves are blocking my view. my hand is in the bin flash light looking and I feel her head. OMG...hand out flashlight off. I have velcro outside the cage and put up the privacy curtain so the cats can not look in or me in a perfect world.

Its been 10 mins and I don't see her. I am hoping she is still in that hole and I do not want to check since I already messed with her with my hand.

So now what do I do. First time laying eggs with a Cham. My beardie is not so finicky she has laid them in my lap.

Just leave her now. As long as you don't bother her again maybe she will continue. Wait until tonight when she is done. You should be able to hear her scratching as she digs if you listen closely.

the hole is deep and she is butt end in it was her head I touched. Any luck she is done digging and she was laying at the time?

1/2 hour and no sign of her. the curtain is covering the bottom half and I am not going near it to even cause a shadow. Thee good thing is she is not above the curtain :) but I don't hear anything

patience
if you are able to discretely see her, to verify you didnt accidentally collapse the hole on her, do so. carefully and slowly and try not to get noticed!
But otherwise just leave her alone. Check on her in the middle of the night when she is sleeping to be sure she finished and returned to the branches. Just in case she didnt finish, leave a laying bin in there for a few more days.

The bin is always in there. I put the plants in a way to hide it in case a cat jumped on the window ledge and tried to peer in it is hidden. might need to rethink that for the future. I have no idea when she started I left at 8am got home 2.30 and then this all started.

I did not collapse it. Because After I put my hand in I felt the hole then something hard- her head then the dope I am used my fingers gently to confirm it was a head. Then I realized what I had done....

I see a tail in the bin three hours now since I have been home so she is head first in the hole .

could she be burying the eggs or is she still going to lay them?

Don't panic and leave her to it.....if she decides not to lay you will just have to accept it and it might be worth getting her a big trash can like Jannb uses - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/jannb/345-egg-laying-laying-bin.html
But you probably have nothing to worry about (I assume it's her first time laying too?) Mine was in a bin for a day and all night plus a chunk of next morning. I don't know exactly how long it took her......when she leaves the laying site and goes back up to the top make sure you give her plenty of misting and food, with a little extra Calcium too.........good luck :)

Thank you everyone. I can not imagine if these were fertile and then waiting for the babies....

I hear digging or burying, not peeking figure she is moving so not buried herself.

This is the first time, does it get easier??? I am assuming she is just doing what chams do and is emotionally fine. I am on the other hand- a wee bit STRESSED!

Easier for her or for you :)? My last time was my 3rd infertile batch (none fertilised so far). I was ok with it, had some partying to do so wasn't concerned to look or disturb her - and I was confident my girl was healthy.......
The fact that she is digging in the bin you provided for her is a good start, mine didn't....scratching around for a couple of days acting like nowhere is good enough, cheeky little thing.......
The most important thing, and it bears repeating is 'chill out, it's normal, she'll be fine'

After reading all this, i'm sure it'll be okay! Are the eggs fertile? It would be awesome to see baby pictures soon! :)

no not fertile- she is only 9 months old.
hole is pretty deep only a tip of tail showing 6 hours so far.

I had a starter hole and she used it. I am very happy she is using the bin even after I mauled her face with my fingertips...I assume now she was taking a break then.

Wish i was a bit later I could go to bed, wake up and everything be done:D

when she is done do they fill in the entire hole or just cover the eggs?

She'll probably fill the entire hole in. Did she look good and plump before she got into the hole? Be ready for her to come out looking a bit tired and thin and dirty :)

she looked a little plump but 40gram weight gain in 3 weeks
she always looks skinny to me. I am use to my beadies at 370grams and 355 grams...

SHE IS OUT OF HER HOLE :) headed 1/2 way up her cage

looking skinny I heard her! lights were out but I turned one on. put my hand in her cage She climbed on! put her at the top and turned on mistking getting a good soak and drinking first time I ever saw that!.

will offer a few crickets if she eats I will leave the lights on a bit longer did not check the bin

just got home from work and she is standing in the bin again? She did fill the entire hole over. Curtain back up and she is going for round 2?
I left before lights on this morning so did not have a chance to look for eggs. Now I can't, sounds like digging

She's probably covering the hole the rest of the way. I would give her a nice LONG WARM misting and some feeders coated with calcium dust and a couple drops of liquid calcium today and 2 to 3 more days. I would also feed her well for the next 3 days.

28 eggs is all good - they can lay over 60 per clutch. I was happy with 31...........:)
