Alergic?

I find that when I am holding Jane, she leaves marks on my skin. My skin gets itchy and red. I end up with little scabs where her claws have dug in. Am I allergic to her walking on my arm? Does it happen to others. My hubby doesn't have that problem at all. He just says I have girlie skin....lol

Any thoughts?

This happened with me when I first got my cham last March. I too was concerned about allergies. After a few weeks, the red marks and rashy skin stopped popping up after handling my cham. Keep an eye on it, make sure it doesn't get worse, and use some anti-itch cream as needed. Be sure to wash your hands well!

I think it's just little nails breaking the skin, which is stingy/itchy, not necessarily allergies. It's like if you scrape up against a rose bush, those little scrapes end up itching for a little bit. Or paper cuts.

I'm getting a lot of this now with my new Meller's. She left lots of very shallow rips on my wrist that itched like crazy, but a little neosporin later and I can't feel them. Thankfully experience tells me she'll relax her grip with time and I won't have to pull out the leather gloves to handle her!

Oh, okay thanks very much for the replies. I feel much better now. I always make sure I wash after touching her.

That happened to me the first time I held Monty too. He held on tight and left marks all over my arms and they itched because they were just... irritated. Doesn't do that anymore because he's more used to me and doesn't break skin!

We've only had her a few weeks now. I'm hoping to get used to her on my arms. She's super cool and really happy we have her.

Veileds have sharp nails and they only get sharper I get it too at times just make sure to wash your hands after you hold her that should help a bit.
