Age at which females produce eggs

At what average age does a female veiled cham produce eggs?

Hi and welcome....

From what I've read and understand, they can start laying eggs as early as 9 months.... Maybe someone with more experience can back me up or correct me on this one.

well they may produce them around 6mo and older but its never good to breed a larger cham under a year old.. that has been my rule of thumb. just cause a 12 year old human girl can get pregnant doesn't mean she is old enough to give berth! that is the best way to look at it! hope this helps

They can lay at 6 months. This is also when you should cut back on feedings and lower her basking temp to 80 degrees. You also should have a laying bin in her cage with her at this time.

thanks for the info I have a female and she's getting around that age so I'm begining to worry about this whole egg situation.

Hello and welcome to the forums. I keep veileds and they are such a pleasure to care for. A female can lay eggs as early as 5 months old and die from egg laying if you over feed. David has attached my blogs above for general care and egg laying and the laying bin. If she's getting close to that age get her a laying bin now.

To cut right to the chase: Chameleons reach their sexual maturity by weight and not by age. Easier: The more you feed the earlier a female is able to produce eggs.
