hi there i am going to visit my folks soon & don't know what to do with my wee cham Edd I could chance my mother in law taking care but would be worried sick
The thing i want to know is driving long distance with chams as i'd much prefer to take him with me Or should i just not do this?
I usually drive at night but could easily drive thru the day if this was best
Any advice would be great

I think two key factors for me would be:
1) how old is the cham?
2) how far is the trip?
I've taken mine on several 3 hour trips, but always feel bad for them bouncing around on the branches of their cage. I would assume it would be less stressful at night, when the cham was sleeping. You could try to make it more comfortable by placing it in a cloth sack, some use even shoe boxes or paper bags, during the journey.

If you do take him with you make sure its in the dark the entire time. They will go into sleep mode.

Use a critter keeper put a stick or tow maybe a fake vine for it to hold onto and a lightly damp paper towel.

It is always less stressful for them not to travel but if you have to them sleeping through it is the best.

Thanks well we think he's around 5 months old & it is a 5 hr trip all together upto the top of scotland
I thought night would be best as well my husband would be holding whatever he was in so i wouldn't be worried about him getting jerked around
I just don't trust my in laws to care for him & would hate to come home to an ill or even worse cham
I can take his flexi etc with me so he would be home from home as soon as we got there
i'm just worried for stress to him but all that ideas sound great
thanks
for ur help
:)

I know that worried feeling of travelling and leaving our pets at home. In the past I left the care of my 30 or so reptiles to my 17 year old son and he does a fine job of keeping everyone feed and hydrated, but this September he is off to college and I am afraid my travel days are over, as my mother-in-law is the only one I would have to care for my pets and I wouldn't want to depend on her with my chams...so house bound I will be.

arrgh i know but all my family are up in scotland & i really have to go up soon
My mum in law can hardly look after my 2 cats let alone a chameleon

Do you have a local reptile shop you trust ?

If so, why not ask if he can holiday there ? I'm sure if they have space they would do it for a small charge...

New environment would be a little stressful but less stressful than a five hour trip to scotland.

thats a big no no the shop nearest to us i wouldn't trust at all they didn't even know what kind of cham he was Gave us wrong advice & nearly got him impacted with wooden substrate!!!!!

perhaps, other chameleon keepers around your place that you trust?
you can take your chameleons to their house or they can visit your cham for feeding and pouring water to the bucket for misting system (provided you have it).

5 hours drive is a long way to drive.
If possible you should not take him with you.

But, if everything is not possible, then moving him at night will be better.
