I adopted a veiled 3 days ago. Coworker didn't want him after getting a boa. I basically rescued him cause he was gonna let him going the almost freezing weather. He said he is 9-10 months old with I think he is older. He came in a 16x16x18 wire mesh cage. He is about 4.5 inches snout to beginning of tail. I have a 24x24x48 aluminum wire mesh cage coming soon. Keeping humidity about 55-75 the whole day. Basking temps 91-94 trying to get at 95. Temps at night ar 70-75. Feeding crickets and gut loading them per research I have found. Once I get my cage he will have an amazing cage.

Glad to be on the forums! Lots of amazing info and knowledge.

Lower the temps to the low/mid 80's and you're good to go! Keep up the good work. It sounds like you did your research! What kind of supplements do you have for him? I'm sure your new cham will be very happy! :)

Welcome to the forum!

Sad your coworked didnt care at all and was just going to let him lose in the wild. Good job taking him. You did the right thing by ordering a bigger cage.

Good luck with him.

Welcome to the forum, you are official cham owner so forget the cad friend. We are all here and are happy you are too. Hoping for pictures soon.:D

sounds like youre doing great so far. believe me, there is alot of information available and don't be afraid to ask. there are many people here that got me through all my worries...

once you get pictures youll be able to get some help as to the species type and sex that you received.

just a few questions:
-what are you using for a heat source
-what are you using for UVB
-what are you doing for misting/dripper
-what supplements are you using

-heat lamps 100 watt ones in ceramic fixtures (I monitor temps and ensure he doesn't get burned)
- Have a 5.0 UVB Bulb. Just got today, wasn't sure how old the one was he came with.
- Have a misting machine from zoo med comes on during the day every hour for 1 min, I mist him 3-6 times
a day as well.
- Calcium with d3, calcium with beta, and calcium powders.

First off,
Welcome to the Forums!!! :D!!!
Nice move with the 5.0

Excuse my criticism, but i wouldn't have it misting that many times. I have mine set up for once every 6 hours it does a 1 min mist. And i mist her once a day by hand and she is nice and hydrated!

Make sure with the calcium d3 you only use twice a month (every other week) from all the advice i have gotten from here, if you can get the Calcium without d3 and use every day. As for with Beta i have no idea

All of the info im attempting to give is all from things i have gotten from here! Im glad you decided to take the little guy and he looks great!!! Glad to see that he has fallen into the hands of a owner who actually does research!

I will adjust the time and misting for him.

I have the calcium with d3 marked on my calendar for every 2 weeks. Other than that each feeding session he gets the calcium d3 free

Welcome

Congrats on being a new Cham caretaker! Good job on rescuing him and not letting him be let out in the freezing temperatures... Sounds like everyone has given you great advice, I just wanted to say hello and welcome! :O)
