Acclimation Question ?

Just picked up a full grown male panther, cage & all, thinking it would be an easier transition to a new home & its been a week & he still hasn't eaten regularly. I've seen him drink & I've seen him eat 1 cricket & 1 worm but in general he doesn't seem too happy with the change. So has anyone else had experience with adults & how long in general could it take for him to acclimate to a new environment ?

firstly they got a questionnaire that you should fill out to give an idea of exactly WHAT type of set-up you got going on:

Chameleon Info:

* Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
* Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
* Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
* Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
* Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
* Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
* History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

* Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
* Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
* Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
* Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
* Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
* Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
* Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

once you do that people will be a lot more willing and able to offer suggestions...even more important would be posting some pictures of your entire set-up! once we get those i'm sure the answers and (be ready) criticisms will come in.

Yeah for sure.. but adults take a while to acclimate because theyve been accustomed to relatively the same enclosure for a long period of time..when i got my male at the time he was 6 mos old, he took well over 3 months to become acclimated to his new enclosure..he did some pretty weird things like move like a leaf blowing in the wind, he used to look up with one eye for the first 2 weeks (i would guess looking for birds or something), and generally scared to explore and eat. hope this helped

I think he said he picked up cage and all, meaning he is in the same enclosure?? It can take awhile, a couple of weeks maybe. Even though he is in the same enclosure, it is different surroundings for him that he is not used to. Is there anything in the room that could possible stress him out in anyways?

He was in a center of a room with a lot of movement & now he's in a smaller room with very little to look at with 2 other chameleons. I put up a barrier so he can't see the others because it looked like he was staring them down trying to intimidate them with his size. He seems to be a very dominant male not liking having roomates. So hopefully with time, as you said , he will settle down & start eating normally.......
