Has there been any studies done on chameleons and there ability to absorb other essential vitamins through the skin? Not just uvb for vit d synthesis, I want to know if they possess the ability to absorb other vitamins like we are. Links to studies done on chameleons specifically would be greatly appreciated.

I have nothing factual to add to this thread... But I would think that is possible...

There's topicals for fungal infections right? I'd also think that they're absorbed, though it isnt vitamins..

I think most topical treatments for fungus infections treat the epidermis or dermis layers of the skin. They arent necessarily absorbed through the skin to attack other areas.

Im with you though. I think this is possible..:p

If this has been done and proven to be correct. This could be a way for breeders or keepers with chameleons too small to administer any vitamins orally. A way to give them essential vitamins we may think they are lacking without the risk of aspiration.

Unfortunately the epidermis of most reptiles is more impermeable than that of mammals so I doubt there is much that be absorbed like amphibians. Amphibians can actually absorb antibiotics, anesthetics and other substances through their skin (not anything, but a lot), but it is very thin and very vascular. I'll dig through my literature library and see what I can find on chams...

John have you been sitting on the toilet "thinking again":confused: You are the great thinker!!!

LOL, somehow blood flows to my brain better when sitting on my throne.
