A new way to add horizontal branches.

Well, I am sure I am not to first to do this, but I am happy with the results so I thought I would share it.

I am setting up a coupe of new cages (will post final pics when they are done) and am using 1 large Schefflera in each cage. Now, I clearly will need to add some branches in the cage int eh top portion, but I hate 'hard' placing branches across across the interior of the plants as it makes them difficult to take out and clean.

So, I took some pieces of bamboo, drilled holes in each end, and then using zip ties, attached them to the large, vertical branches within the plant.

This not only helps pull together and 'fix' the large plant stems in place, but provides a number of horizontal pathways within the plant itself.

The cage in question is on the right, still need to add more branches in the top portion, as well as work on the cage on the left, but you get the idea.

Just sharing,

THanks!

That's awesome! My plant isn't big enough to do that yet, but it's something i'll probably end up doing! :D thanks for sharing!

Very nice! You may want to use a twist tie instead of the zip ties. That would allow for easier cleaning and moving if needed.

Great idea and I'm certain that you ARE the 1st to do this... :D

Are you in a shed or are you building onto the house? I noticed the untreated plywood. :)

That's a cool idea, the only problemI can see is when the plant decides to 'drop' the particular 'umbrella' that its resting on.

My Cham room is a three car garage that I insulated, lined walls with the plywood, and then out a AC/Heat system in place. So, yea, I didnt feel the need to paint it.....

It is actually tied to the main stem itself, but I guess I could always move it a bit. Zip ties are cheap! ;)

Awesome! I'm having to build an outside enclosure to hold my chams. I hope to start and finish the project by the start of Spring.
