ok guys. i was given a senegal chameleon two weeks ago. im a tarantula guy, not a chameleon guy. my mother got this little one from a reptile show. im 99% sure she is WC.

she is about 7 inchs long with tail. she is skiny. she is in a screen cage that measure 14x14x22. she has a 5.0 exoterra UVB light, and a 60 watt type A bulb for heat. she has lots of fake leaves and brachs to climb on. the hot spot is around 90*, and the rest of the cage is around 75 to 85 depending on height and how far it is from the heat light. she is eating great, normaly 3 to 4 criks every other day. she has a dripper and the cage gets misted 3 times a day with distilled water. i was told that there is a good chance she has worms or other parisites so im treating her with pancur, she is done with her first dose ( one drop a day for three days) and she will get the second dose next week. she poops normaly.

ok my questions. she seems to spend alot of time under the heat lamp. is that normal? her poo is slightly yellow, i was told that means she is dehydrated. how can i get her to drink more? i can see she ribs. after a few weeks of normaly food will this go away? thanks

PS, no pics... my camrea wont act right

If she appears underweight , it may be indicative of worms. the panacur should weaken the worms by day 10. If they are visible size, you will see them passed along with her stool. I'd suggest a dose every 7 - 10 days for at least 3 more applications. Misting the cage will give your cham good opportunity to drink.

BTW, what is your Panacur concentration and dosage?

It isn't bad to see ribs on a chameleon. But if the skin is loose on parts of the body or the skin in sunken in around the head, eyes are sunken in, then you have an issue.

try misting with warm water. make sure the plants you mist, hold water well and soak the leaves so she can go to them and drink. her urate will turn white the longer you have her and mist her well. if it maintains a yellow color you should maybe think about an automatic mister so she can get nice long showers.

The poop is normally brown and the urates are white. If you are talking about the urates being yellow, it could mean she needs more hydration. Senegals are real water hounds and its important to try to get her to drink every day. She should do this if water is dripped on her nose slowly.

Do you know for sure its a female? If so have you provided a place for her to dig in the cage in case she has eggs?

Dosing a chameleon with panacur will/should get rid of any parasites that panacur will kill, but there are other parasites that it won't kill. Without a fecal test you won't know if she has any other parasites.

ok thanks guys! im not sure if its a female or not. is there an easy way to tell?

the pancur in a paste that i got from LLL reptile, its in a large white and blue suring. what is the easyest way to warm the misting water? just put it in a sink full of warm water for a few mins? thanks!

You don't necessarily have to use distilled water for misting. If your tap water is decent you can use it. Either use hot water out of the tap or microwave it. As the warm water turns to droplets it will cool dramatically, so you can start with fairly hot water. By the time the droplets land on the cham it will be warm. If your water is really hard (high in minerals) you can use a sink filter to soften it somewhat. The leaves might get some evaporated salt on them over time, but you can deal with that.

cool, thanks! i use distilled because my water is hard, plus i always keep some on hand for my tarantulas. so id i use warm water and mist her directly she shouldnt get to upset at me like she does now when i mist her?

It helps if you can mist from above to simulate rain. Then after a few min mist the rest of the cage and she should start drinking. They dont like water being directed at them and it makes em start to run away from it. Ive found if the mist comes down from above they are more receptive to staying underneath the spray.
