I just bought a baby veiled chameleon, and I have a few questions.
1. How many crickets is he supposed to eat a day? I have read that they eat a lot more when they're young, but I don't want to mess up something so simple via overfeeding. He's on 1/4 sized(?) crickets and I gave him... like 5. But he never ignored them, he was very eager to eat them.
2. I have bought Zoo Med's Repitivite "Reptile Vitamins" is that a good brand? Do I need a calcium dust as well even though this says it has calcium? It says to dust 12 crickets per week, per 2.5 ounces of body weight. But I have nooo idea how many that means in a practical way. Like, half of the ones I feed him?
3. I get up at 6:00am go to school, come home, go to work, come home, and go to bed around 10:00. So, I have his basking light set to be on 6:00am-10:00pm, but that's over 12 hours and I want to make sure that more than 12 hours of "daylight" won't adversely affect him. I want him to get enough beauty sleep. :]
4. Which is the best way for my crickets to drink? I've read the following: potato slices, wet sponge/paper towel, or cricket 'water'(these like weird blue crystals.) I'm kind of skeptical about the neon crystals because I don't eat stuff that color, I wouldn't want my cham to ingest dyes and other sad things.
Some of these questions probably require you to know that he is very small. I don't know his age, but with his tall curled up he's probably about 5.5 inches?
If you have any tips or product recommendations or anything please let me know. I tried to really do my research. I was relieved to see that within 30 minutes of being in his new house he was green and basking and exploring. :]
