i am in the process of doing one of the enclosures and right now i have two options for where ill put the basking light. one is 11 inches from the bulb and the other would be 8 inches. im not worried about temps as the light i have i can dim brighter or lower as long as i meet 85 degrees but what would u suggest i use? im thinking 8 inches so that the bulb doesnt get TOO hot on the cage than what it would be if at 11inches. thoughts?

I prefer the farther the better. Less chances of hot spots at the basking area. if its 8" away, and the cham is 4" tall, well that is a narrow range to work with. I also dont fire the basking light down. I always angle them to the cage. This also helps with avoiding a hot spot on the back spikes.

Mine is 10 inches from the branch and I run a herpstat as well. Farther is safer because of how far they lift off the branch.
