Hey guys, was looking around town for fake ficus trees. After checking Home Depot and WalMart and failing, I decided to check Michael's since I was only vaguely familiar with the store and remembered lots of fake plants. Turns out Michael's is fake plant meca, at least around here. 4ft fake ficus was on sale for 14.99, and 6ft was 29.99.

Why not just buy a real ficus? They are very easy to care for. They could grow in a closet if you tried i'm sure XD

Cool find though. Don't forget to dust it regularly.

I feel like why risk it when it can harm the chameleon, even if the chance is only small. Makes a good indoor free range tree :).

That's a great deal. Luie and Camille might need a few more. LOL I use fake plants mostly indoors where I do not mist. My house is like a jungle. I have 4 fake Ficus and 2 live indoors and I have one "old" but Luie's favorite, fake Ficus outside along with 15 or so live trees and plants for my chams outside. I don't have a problem with the fake ones inside. Luie and Camille love them and I don't have to pick up the leaves.

How so mate? I only see it as benefiting the cham....

I read the sap can be harmful to the chameleon.

Your chams must love it. I was never into plants before but now I can't stop thinking about what indoor/outdoor plants to get. So far I have 2 schefflera and the fake ficus.

The fake Ficus trees I have as decor in my house have sharp edges and pieces that could easily get swallowed.

I would rather use a real ficus, just because of the fact that the leaves can be eaten... and the sap is only harmful if it gets into the eyes, as far as I am aware.

Otherwise, I'm sure massive amounts of ficus would need to be consumed, and if they are eating so much ficus in the first place, they are doing so because they can't get the nutrients elsewhere.

I bet you haven't tried to yank the leaves off with your teeth and thrashing at it a bit while doing it...

That's cool, I'd just rather not take any risk with the sap. The leaves are pretty secure, tried pulling on them with some force.

You would rather not take risk with the sap, I would rather not take a risk with the fake leaves.

The sap is only released from a cut or break in the bark. If a leaf is cleanly removed or falls off there is no sap or residue. As long as you buy a healthy tree and it has sturdy limbs and you don't prune it, there is almost no way you could come into contact with it.

Are you getting a veiled or a panther? Panthers very rarely munch on trees or greens at all. A veiled is much more likely to decide he wants a salad.

That's a really good deal. I think a few 6ft would be nice for a free range set up.

Just like any plant, you need to watch out for it. I don't think putting a fake plant in there would hurt anything. I use fake vines and haven't seen my veiled or any of the panthers eat the fake vines.

Veiled, which is why I was more concerned with a real ficus.
