Hi guys!
I have a male veiled chameleon named Grimes who I have estimated to be 4 months old. He has not been eating for about 3 days and I have not seen him drink water. When he climbs his trees, vines, or my arm he is much shakier than normal and his tail swings back and forth as if trying to find support/balance. I'm really worried about this little guy and I want to make sure I'm giving him the proper care. Here is some information about him:
Grimes is about 4 months old; veiled species
I feed him small crickets, waxworms, and mealworms (about 10-15 a day of any kind)
He lives in a 10 gallon tank with small tropical plants, a fake vine, a light with a 50W halogen bulb, and a drip system. (I know that this isn't preferable for chams but I am saving up money to get him a better enclosure, and he is small enough that space isn't a problem yet.)
The temp of the enclosure is kept between 80-85 degrees F. The humidity is kept from 45%-60%. (I live in a very dry desert climate, so this is a good as it gets with humidity.)
I dust his food with vitamin supplement powder (Zoo Med's "Reptivite" reptile vitamins with D3).
His symptoms are: no eating/drinking (at least for a few days), shaky climbing, generally low levels of activity, occasional puffing/sneezing sounds, extra timidness.
As far as extra care, I have not yet taken him to a vet because I want to make sure a vet will help me before I spend that money. I have put him in a steamy shower several times as some cham owners suggest. I haven't ordered any medicine yet because I don't know what will help. Thanks for reading, any questions, suggestions or advice are welcome
