My fixture holding my flourescent just crapped out today. I was wondering how long my chameleon could safely go without UVB/A. Should I go out to the store tomorrow and grab one or save a bit of money and get one online?

Second question, I'm already thinking they are toxic and a no no, but has anyone ever tried feeding your cham a love bug (florida owners only probably), or heard any negatives about doing so. Thanks in advance.

As far as the UV throw them outside for a few hours each day untill your fixture comes in the mail. Its been nice out.

And IMO i would not feed love bugs to my chameleons because love bug juice will eat the paint off of your car if you leave them on there for a while...that cant be good for a chameleon stomach!

I don't know about your love bug question because I haven't been to Fl, but wow that sounds gross! Eating the paint of cars.. Wow. You would think the stomach acid would be able to cancel it out or something, though.

As for the UVB bulb fixture being broken, they have them at walmart for 5-20$ depending on what size you need. I got one for a 20" (I think LOL can't remember now) bulb for 5$.

edit: they look something like this

Found this little bit on info. on Love bugs...

They have a slightly acidic body chemistry. Because airborne lovebugs can exist in enormous numbers near highways, they die en masse on automobile windshields, hoods, and radiator grills when the vehicles travel at high speeds. If left for more than an hour or two, the remains become dried and extremely difficult to remove. In the past, the acidity of the dead adult body, especially the female's egg masses, often resulted in pits and etches in automotive paint and chrome if not quickly removed. that can't be good.

I've looked a few times for them there but haven't spotted them. But the owner of herpsupplies.com is only 20 minutes away from me so I', just going to go there tomorrow.

It in the lighting section for under cabinet fixtures. ALL walmarts have it. I haven't been to a single one that hasn't.

Try lowes if you have to. Fixtures shouldn't cost you 20$.

If they carry one fixture, they've probably got all sizes.
I buy mine at Wal Mart for about 9$.

Your cham will be fine for a week or so without UVB, a few weeks if it's an adult.
