Couldn't find the GE daylight 6500K bulb at walmart or homedepot but found one that is 14 watt 800 lumens and 5000k. Would this work about the same? One of my umbrella plants didn't make it under a Repti-glo 5.0 w/60watt household basking bulb. The other plant seems fine though.

5000k will be brighter than your repti-glo so you could try it if it's not too much $$, but 6500K works best. Do you have Dollarama's near you? I found 6500K Daylight CFL's for only $2 there and they are SO bright. My plants flourish underneath them.

I agree, I am surprised to.
OP do you think you may have overlooked it? It doesn't say 6500K directly on the box, but says DAYLIGHT (http://www.homedepot.ca/product/mini-twister-daylight-compact-fluorescent-bulb-23-watt-4-pack/914391).

Home depot and lowes are limited with bulbs. no t5ho or t5 daylights. you can find larger sizes of the t8 though. i don't think they aware of the 'new' energy saver thing yet.
The reason why the other umbrella plant didn't make it is because it was smaller than the other one I have in there now and it was not getting enough light rays. I put a cricket keeper underneath the one that is in there now that is doing ok to jack it up and put it closer to the lights. If this fails then I'll be looking again for an additional light source for my plant. Thanks for you help.
