10.0 UVB light for chameleon??

hey:):) well im getting a chameleon in 2-3 weeks and need to get everything ready. i have a basking bulb and everything but i used to own a bearded dragon and had the light fixture and a new 10.0 15 watt 18 inch uvb light from reptisun. ik chameleons need a 5.0 but is a 10.0 good for a 2-4 month old chameleon? or forcly has to be the 5.0. thannxx! and this is out of topic but do chameleons eat much less than bearded dragons or do they eat the same amount thanxx! i got rid of my beardie because of food expenses 20-30 crickets daily:eek::(

I have for years used the Repti-sun 5.0 uvb light on my chameleons and they do well with it.

A young/growing chameleon will eat quite a few insects a day. I find an adult veiled male needs less insects than an adult panther male. The females of both species need less than both males. IMHO all of them eat less than a beardie if you're feeding the beardie what you said you are. My adult beardies never ate that many a day...ever. They ate a lot of "salads".

For a juvenile cham I would not use the 10.0. A ReptiSun 5.0 replaced every 6 months is fine. Make sure the cham can bask within 18" of the UV bulb. If in future you end up using a very large or tall cage you might switch to the 10.0 if your cham spends most of its time farther than 18" from the bulb.
