Should I go for it?

Hi,
I just came from a second vet visit. My panther girl (11 months old), is gravid for a month now. I showed her to my boy few days ago, and she didn't show any signs of agression. Even more, when she roams my room, she tries to get to his cage (of course she doesn't have a visual contact, but she seems to know he is there ;)).
So my queston is: if you were me, would you try to breed her?
It might be too late, but could be worth a try.

My worries are that she is still under a year old... but other then that she is healthy. I feed her a varied diet, gutload properly. I've done fecal test 3 months ago and it was negative. I control her weight, food intake etc.

It would be by first time ;) so I would like more exerienced members opinion on the subject. Would you do it? If she is going to lay anyway...

Edit: I forgot to add that it's her second cycle, but she didn't lay eggs the first time. Her weight is 70-73g.

I was/am in somewhat the same situation as you with my female veiled. She is just a year now and is developing her second clutch. She is still receptive and eager to have her 'pizza delivery boy' (my male) come for a visit. I had given breeding her great thought as I do have plans to move into the world of breeding in the far future but for me, I thought about how life would look 9 - 10 months in the future and knew that, at that time my 4 year old (who happens to have Down Syndrome) will be starting Kindergarten, which will be a highly stressful and busy time. Couple that with my 16 year old starting her final year and I KNOW I won't be able to dedicate time and love to 20 - 45 hatchlings. Due to this, I have tabled my plans on breeding at this time and will look at it again in the future.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you don't think you can put all you can into the babies when they arrive in 9 - 10 months, put it off til' the next time! That's the beauty of little girl chams, they'll always have another clutch around he corner!

Ps: Your little girl sounds small or my veiled is big! I weigh daily and she's doubled her weight in 3 months and weighs 141g's now!!

Good luck!

Thank you for your replay. I think her weight is ok, she probably won't get bigger then this.
I'm 100% for it, I planned on breeding her either way during her next cycle. I only worry that she might be too young, and I don't want to harm her, but if she is going to lay any way, why not make use of it? ;)

At least she is a year old ;) I've read a thread few months ago when someone decided to breed his female who was under 50g (I believe it was 47g). She was over a year old and wasn't growing anymore. The owner talked to few breeders and decided to breed her. I don't know how it turned out though.

That was me. She was 18 or so months old and was checked out by several vets and got a clean bill of health. She was mated to a male who was also small, but not as small as her. We never could figure out why they were so small. She ate like a beast! The babies were okay but a few of them died after a few months (they looked very healthy and were growing well but just dropped dead.) She never laid another clutch after that and they both died after an unfortunate petsitter accident.

I'm happy that I got to see the offspring (the parents were my favorite chameleons because the female was a vibrant orange-yellow color and the male was a mix of my favorite shades of red, orange, green, and white ) but she was a pain in the butt after being gravid for nearly two months.

As for your girl, I dont think the breeding would take after her being gravid for so long. I suppose you could try, but I've never heard of eggs being fertile when the female was mated so late.

I'm really sorry they are gone, at least you have their offspring...
I'm quite doubtful too, but I will try anyway. I just showed her to the male, I'm not sure if they saw each other (she was outside his cage). I'm getting my camera ready and see how it goes ;)
Thank you for your replay.
