When I first got these 2, the female was looking bad...like, really bad. But they've both been eating and drinking and are finally starting to really explore their cage. Tomorrow will be one week since I got these 2. Heres photos!
Reptar, his photos always turn out blurry...
I'm new with keeping chams, so I'm going off what I know from my pygs and what I've read/been told.
I've understood that color bars on the eye, defined ridges along the back, a longer tail, and slimmer appearance are the characteristics of a male.
No bars, smoother ridges, short tail, and...
I'm pretty sure its a female. Males have color bars on the eye turrets and the "spikes" on their back are more defined. Females lack the color bars on the turrets and their backs are more rounded.
Heres some alright photos of my pygs, just so you can see the difference...
I can't help it, I love these 2. Especially now that they've started eating, I really wanna show them off.
Heres the female Starship. If you look at the other photo I posted of her she looked pretty skinny. I watched her eat 2 crickets today so her bellys pretty full. I think shes eaten...
Hmm, the temperature issue is a huge factor and pretty much the only factor. The jacksons do good at the temp that we usually keep the house at so thats what it would appear that I get.
If I get a juvenile jacksons, is 18"x18"x36" big enough to have for awhile?
Starship and Reptar are my female/male bearded pygs I got Tuesday.
I was concerned, and so were some posters on here, about the condition of Starship. She was very skinny and lethargic. Well now I'm feeling better about it because I just watched her eat 2 crickets!!! :D
Also, prior to...
eh, theres nothing to be done now. I'll look into getting a 5 gallon tank for just her, provided she lives long enough to benefit from it.(I know that sounds horrible but its the truth)
The only thing I'll have to buy is the actual tank, I can use stuff from where they are now to set it up...
Hmm, every where you look things say that bearded pygs are a perfect "starter" cham. But as I've learned with many endeavors, you can know everything in theory but have a steep learning curve when it comes to practice.
I'll keep everyone posted.
In fact, heres the first update...they're...
It can't be heat issues, if anything they were probably cold when I first got them. Basking isn't something that pygmys do, I've never seen anything that suggested a basking lamp for pygs, so it can't be a heat thing.
The female has been lethargic, but she drank water heartily. And although...
Lol, the name thing actually came pretty quickly.
My gf got a crested gecko about a month ago and we were trying to come up with names and she really likes this band called Cobra Starship and she didn't want to name her crested Gecko Starship, so I took the name and made it Chameleon Starship...
These are the first ever chams of any kind I've had. I think this will just start an unhealthy addiction. :p
This is my female named Chameleon Starship
And this is my male, ReptarKingoftheOzone
It took a better part of the day for the 2 to start moving around once they did a...
Good information, thanks alot. I was aware of crickets eating on sleeping chams and devouring babies. Luckily, babies aren't a concern now lol. I'll have to toss a piece of carrot in there as well as a few crickets. Thanks again.
I guess the only real question I have is about feeding. I posted a thread about a feeding schedule and got a good response. When should I try to feed them and how?
Should I just toss a few little crickets in the tank or should I put a few in feeding cup and let the chams find it?
