If he’s eating and active daily then I’d be willing to bet he’s fine. I have an Ambanja in a funk right now too just like yours is and aside from his color he’s given me no reason to worry. The 2 pictures are the same chameleon just a few months apart.

I believe your little guy might actually be a little gal. But it would be easier to tell for certain with some better pictures of the base of the tail

Definitely a female. Her pink/salmon colors are coming in nicely with sexual maturity and I’ve never seen a male display purple cheek scales

Ah ok, good to hear. Sometimes they go thru a faze and their colors get muted for a while, it’s normal and since you said everything else is good with him I wouldn’t be concerned. I currently have an ambanja doing the same thing in a winter funk

I believe that bulge you see is the chameleons vent, the hemipenes bulge would be right after the vent bulge at the base of the tail.
