nevermind
Now I am considering 2" by 3" by 6-7" enclosure. Ya my woodworking skills, what wood working skills? I learn as I go. What type of wood did you use for this build? and stain?
Nice Enclosure
First off...excellent enclosure! Second, I live just north of you in Concord NH and I am interested in building my own wooden enclosure. I have access to the marine epoxy that you spoke of earlier in your post. I really would like to build a round enclosure, primarily of wood...
cage
Nice idea! I would get the cage further from the ground though. Make it so the cham can climb to the top of the enclosure and be at least eye level with you, or above. They feel more comfortable higher.
burns
I learned the hard way and so did the chameleon. I caught the problem before it seriously damaged my cham. There is a minor slump in is back, barely noticeable. He his all better now and enjoys his time under the lights.
Are those just standard flourscent lights? or UVB? in those...
what materials
What materials are you using for the construct of your enclosure? Wood? Screen Trim? Plastic? I used the same material you would to make a screen door to allow proper ventilation. If you use too many sides moisture can accumulate which may create fungus/mold/mildew etc...
indirectly
Personally, misting/spraying directly on the chameleon may startle and stress him/her out; therefore, resulting in a chameleon who may get upset or rush to another area of the enclosure to get away resulting in injury. Some chameleons will actually drop when they feel they are in...
jackson
I recently went to my local PetCo store here in Concord NH and was appalled at the conditions a Jacksons chameleon was living in. Similar situation with the enclosure being too small, glass, low heat and humidity. They were feeding this chameleon crickets larger than the chams head...
the idea
The idea behind placing the heat light and UVB bulb on top or somewhat in that general area is due to the chameleon's natural instinct to climb and bask in the sun (or simulated sun) which is neccessary for its over all health. Then if the chameleon gets too hot it can self-regulate...
keeping dubias
I did not realize they were canabilistic like the cricks are. 50 females and 14 males started your colony? Those males are lucky.
How often do you have litters of 10 - 15 dubias? Cause if there are that many females to male ratio, im surprised you do not get more offspring.
ya
I have a 120w lamp, but I do not get the temps the cham requires. The 150w is hot if your hand is directly under the bulb; however, the bulb is about 8 inches away from the basking spot. I may switch back to the 120, but for now the 150 is providing temps that are above the 80s in the...
Reptaid
I just recently purchased a bottle of Reptaid and have been using it for the past two days now.
A little background info. My cham has been on a hunger-type strike and only eating 1 - 3 large cricks or roaches daily. His behavior in the past month has also changed from basking for...
Be pateint
Just be patient and don't stress. He will eat locusts again. The good thing is that he isn't starving himself. Temps in the enclosure may affect his eating habits too. If temps are too low he will eat less and sometimes not at all.
Another idea, it may be just his age...
I just recently purchased reptaid for my chameleon just as a precausionary means of preventing health issues. I have the instructions with me; however, I have no access to a gram scale; therefore I can not accurately weigh my cham in order to administer the proper dosage. My chameleon is...
