    Salmonella

always wash your hands after doing anything w/ your chams (cage, etc...) and you'll be ok. any reptile can carry it and there was a big thing about water turtles having it back in the day.

    Flexarium (Mesh Viv) help

i don't understand. you're worried about the inside of your house getting down to 50 degrees? turn your heat on. your cham is fine w/ temps down to 60 or so. if you can't keep your house warmer than 50 in the winter, you don't need a reptile.

Is it ok for the cham to sit within6 inches of the basking bulb ??

eh, humans don't need heat to live the same way as a reptile. supposedly, a chameleon's heat receptors are on their backs, therefore it would seem (i'm not a herpetologist) that it can decide to back away when it's too hot. just use a thermometer to test the temps in the basking spot to tell.

    Lift of prairie dog ban

weren't prairie dogs the reason for a disease outbreak a while back? fleas on the animals were spreading disease to human keepers or just the animals themselves?

Is it ok for the cham to sit within6 inches of the basking bulb ??

i'd say it depends on the bulb wattage. people say to keep the bulbs a certain distance away but i believe the cham can decide itself when it's too hot. just make sure the bulb isn't resting on something that can absorb the heat and burn the cham's skin.

    Dying Veiled at Petco...

you put petco in the topic heading but then say it's petsmart. the best thing for you to do is not give them your business and tell your friends/family the same. there is a pet place in my town that is absolutely horrendous. the animals look like they're practically begging you to take them...

    cham's behavior in new cage

he's supposedly 3yrs old and was a great eater b4. i usually handfeed but i had left a silkie in there and he didn't touch it. it ended up chilling w/ him in a spot at one point in the night. he hides so hopefully he's just getting adjusted. i'll buy some crickets tomorrow and put them in his cup.

Mouth open at the basking place

the thermoregulating thing could be right but i remember my iguana doing the same thing when she was small. she gasped and would raise her head straight up as if she was having trouble breathing. it could have been because she was too hot under the lamp too but i'm not sure. just watch your...

put my cham in a reptarium with some nice vines, etc. and he hasn't eaten for 2 days(it'll be 3 tomorrow). is this normal for him until he gets used to his new environment or is he sick? this sucks.
