The only time he puffs up is when my camera is out. He just kind of looks at himself and tries to climb on the mirror instead of firing up. I thought that was kind of weird for chameleon behavior, but the fact that he is totally chill makes up for that. He is a great pet. Hands down.

When you say large, how large do you mean?

If you are using pine wood for your enclosure make sure to use a sealent of some type as the pine oil (the stuff that smells piny) is bad for reptiles and usually succumbs to moisture. I used poplar for the enclosure and fiberglass with holes drilled in it for the bottom.

From my understanding adult veileds need a basking temp in the mid 90's. Dusting with calcium with d3 should only occur once a month, that could be your problem. Try using calcium with OUT d3 every day instead. Also try to mix up his meals with some hornworms or silkworms from time to time that...
