The biggest issue with automated fish tanks is the auto top off controllers. Float valves get stuck, fresh water floods in.. or something leaks.. fresh water floods in.. heaters and malfunctions related to that are probably the other big thing that does them in. Especially on the X10 type...
yeah my guy has lost a few nails that makes climbing tricky... doesn't matter what i do he climbs the side, so the next enclosure hopefully in august will be the green fencing.
They're essentially deaf.. i wouldn't crank the bass and fire the amp at the enclosure.. but other than that you'll be fine.
Most reptiles don't stink, most aquariums filled with dirt and a reptile tend to stink, mold over, and give you that "pet store" smell. A chameleon kept in a clean...
By threat to the hobby, i meant politically. Which is a whole other discussion, but they are a shining example of the negligence that this hobby is known for, so its really not the best idea to hold them up in any sort of positive light.
Of course, because i'm not on pangea I know nothing about cresties
I only have more cresteds than i care to count thriving about 15 feet from me.
Vindicated: both your setups look great. :)
The point of the little hamster bowls is that the geckos have no problem getting up in them. You can only really get them at petco though.. Pangea sells a different holder for the .75oz and the 2oz cups if you'd like to give him money.
Not sure how to bury a cup halfway in a solid plastic...
Obviously most large reef keepers already use something like this.
Automation is great, but comes with its own set of problems.. so don't think that its a set and forget type thing. You still need to monitor and maintain your equipment very carefully..
I know people who have lost $15,000...
you're going to go crazy cleaning food bowls. That repashy stuff is a nightmare. Use disposable solo 2oz cups in petco $.99 hamster bowls.
P.S. - Roaches love to eat the dried up repashy diet.
Just as an aside.. Don't ever be fooled by a well done website.. Some of the best breeders around have websites that look like they were done in 1998, and there are guys around here that have websites that look like they're a large company, when in reality 3 months ago they could barely keep a...
Most websites and photos feature chameleons "Fired Up" which is them at their most vibrant. At a show there is a good chance that the animals were stressed and showing their darker, unhappy coloration.
A lot of chameleons don't reach their most vibrant coloration until 18 months or so.. so...
well you're then looking for a pump with strong head pressure, high psi. Gallons per hour measurements will be worthless to you. Suitable pumps will probably be found in RV water supply applications, etc. Diaphram pumps are preferred. You'll want something that can run for more than a few...
All humor aside, those veilds in florida are coming from a relatively shallow gene pool to begin with, and quite frankly need to be rounded up put down. They pose a severe threat to the local environment, and thus the hobby. They are not an argument for anything positive in the hobby.
haven't been there in a few years, but I remember an open air market on nassau that was very nice. The straw market or something to that effect.. it was a place where everything is for sale and everything is negotiable.
Do we need more color morphs of any animals? I'm all about enjoying what nature has to offer, and very against trailer park genetic engineers in florida seeing what color they can make their snake.
I think it actually takes about 30-40psi or so to operate one nozzle.. but the trick is you need a diaphragm pump that can run dry to avoid burning your house down.. those aren't cheap. No standard aquarium pump is going to do the job. Mistking works out to cheaper than hunting down all the...
UV sterilizers still leave all those dead nasties in the water to further decay. I'll say it again, aquarium filters are designed to grow bacteria of all sorts. In fact, by over cleaning a filter you destroy its effectiveness.
Like I said, I'm not doubting you can do it, or that you will do...
It is always best to just leave wild animals alone. The 1% of the time that someone actually rescues an animal doesn't make up for the 99% of the time that the mother is just out of sight. Bambi did terrible things for this country.. You did good to release it.
