It has brown and clear segments on it's legs, it has a body shape much like a black widow, it is very large, and it has red and white spots on it's belly. Sorry the picture is bad, best I can get with my horrible phone lol.
Also, this is in southern california, and I have been finding alot of...
I recently noticed tons of wild crickets in my backyard and they look WAY more healthy than any cricket I have ordered or bought from a pet store. Thinking about feeding some wild crickets, anyone have any experiences doing this or a strong reason not to (not the usual it could have pesticides...
Are there any pygmy species out there that tolerate higher temperatures such as the ones we get over here in southern california? I would really love to work with some pygmys in the future, but having no AC in my house makes it seem like it would be too difficult to keep temperatures low enough.
I noticed that Waldo grew lazy and started to not use the full length of his tongue and would just walk closer to them instead out of laziness.
I decided it was time to change that.
Today Waldo has eaten 7 wild caught (non-toxic) butterflies, 1 wild caught bee (the small common kind), and...
Has anyone witnessed their chameleon eat any sort of bee, or any prey insect that would instinctively attempt to sting back?
Just curious if anyone has seen a chameleon eat a bee without any negative effects as despite their stinger, they seem like they could be a plentiful and nutritious...
I haven't been on the forum for around a year, and I have been testing how my veiled chameleon withstands being placed outdoors year round in a part of southern California where it has reached over 100 degrees quite a few times this summer.
From what I see, this species is far more resilient...
Well I have been wondering for a while why Waldo would consistently have completely orange urates even though I watch him drink plenty of water. Wondering about this got me into researching causes for an orange urate other than dehydration and the only other things I found that could be a cause...
I figured an update on Waldo is long overdue for those of you that remember my previous threads about him.
He has so far overcome his URI completely and I believe his eye infection is gone however his cornea is scarred and he does not have much vision in that eye.
He is now going through...
I was recently reading a book and it stated that in areas the veiled chameleons are frequently found, the night time temperatures in the peak of winter some times are as low as the mid 30's.
This has got me wondering, how low of temperatures veiled chameleons can withstand before it being...
Well, Waldo's eye problem never went away and started to get worse so I took him to see Dr. Greek again.
Waldo's eye has been having an abnormal shape and was producing fluid that would cake over his pupil.
When I noticed this a while back I bought some terramycin figuring it should clear...
I'm interested in getting some of these soon and I was wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction for information about them.
Also, what are the different species, or locales available. Is there any change in care from one locale or species to the next?
Which species would you...
Well Waldo is appearing increasingly anxious and active. He has started to pace his cage and climbs on the screen. Also, whenever the cage door opens he tries to climb out of the cage, not necessarily to me, but rather around me just to get out.
What size/age are they when they begin to want...
Well I haven't been taking pictures of Waldo very much and figured I would grab a picture of how his colors are coming in. He is about 5 months old and this is a picture of him completely content after basking in the sun. He always shows colors like this whenever he sees the sun. So, how do you...
Anybody know the nutritional facts of house or blue bottle flies? Thinking about buying some for Waldo as it would be nice to keep some of them free ranging in his cage as he likes to hunt them.
Anything I should watch out for when using them as feeders?
Should they be fed sparingly or...
Just as a reference for Waldo, I was wondering how big veiled chameleons generally are at 4-5 months of age. I just want to see if he's on the right growth track.
If you have a veiled around that age I'd appreciate it if you'd post his size and age.
Thanks,
Jake
Well, I recently found out that I may be moving to Connecticut. In which it gets really cold in the winter. I wanted to hear what the costs are to keep a cage to an appropriate temperature for a veiled chameleon.
If the price is too high to keep the cage a proper temperature for Waldo, I may...
Will trade dubia for a screen cage of 18x18x36 or 16x16x30
Will also trade dubia for a reptisun 5.0 UVB light and/or a fixture for the light.
The dubia come gutloaded, ready to feed off to your hungry chameleons.
Please be local, so that I can drop them off as I pick up the supplies. I...
I can not entice Waldo to eat out of his feeder bowl. I've tried many different feeder bowls of all different colors. What are your guys' methods to entice a chameleon to start feeding from a feeder bowl. Because as of right now Waldo only eats from my hand or if it is free ranged. If I free...
I have received a chameleon three days ago and it showed up with a RI and possible gular edema. At times I have noticed that his throat appears very swollen, and at other times, not swollen at all. He is only 2 months of age, and is a male veiled chameleon. I know this is quite young to have...
